This is where I am at. When I grew up watching Romário, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo and Kaká, Brazil played with swagger, improvisation and outrageous skill. The classic Brazilian naming style, Bebeto, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Romário and Robinho, was often based on nicknames rather than full surnames. It gave the team personality and made it feel uniquely Brazilian. These were kids who grew up on the streets, earning nicknames because they were dancers and magicians with the ball. Today’s Brazil often feels more Europeanized: tactically organized, physically strong, but less joyful and unpredictable. I want my Brazil back pls

Brazil became finished the moment they stopped producing players with proper Brazilian football names. I grew up watching Bebeto, Romário, Rivaldo, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Robinho… Now I’m seeing Gabriel Magalhães, Ibáñez, Martinelli and Santos. The names alone don’t inspire fear.
