I grew up with a German parent, so imagine my surprise when I moved out and realized people do not open their windows. My roommates were SHOCKED when I would air the house out in the morning 😭 what do u mean youve never heard of air being stale

@GLUREK_ WHOA WHAT?? I don't think I've even experienced humidity below like 30%. my state usually stays around 75% so that's absolutely baffling to me I didn't even know that could happen?? like I heard that some people get nosebleeds from dry air but I thought that was an exaggeration

@RandomizedToxin I literally have to use humidifier few times a week, i was considering getting AC but the fact that i would have even drier air made me ditch the idea. Im already bleeding from nostrils and before i got the humidifier instead of AC i had humidity below 10%. It was also 4x cheaper

@szand idk man I think it depends cause I'm pretty sure certain types of AC have an intake on some sort? idk tho

@janaxolotl Eh, I live in Alabama, its usually pretty necessary. It also works as heating in the winter so yknow I do turn it off sometimes so I can have windows open if its a really nice day, but only now and then tbh

@RandomizedToxin @faith_vtch So you keep your aircon on at all times?? 😳 Like, not only when it’s really really hot in summer? No matter the temperature, always?? This is crazy

@ev55728 I live in a very pollen heavy area that gets VERY hot and humid in the summer(like 90-100f), so opening a window wouldn't always help "^^

@GLUREK_ I'm gonna be honest I live in a really humid area, so i never considered that ac could be dry to some people >3>

@RandomizedToxin @faith_vtch yesss feed me some AC dry fumes so my nostrils can bleed daily, instead of getting 10 min of fresh air in my room to get the dust and other shit discarded

@7LMia7L i think that's true in some areas, but I live directly in the pollen bowl so I suppose I hadnt thought about that "^^

@RandomizedToxin @faith_vtch Even still, the windows should be opened every day. Fresh air can never be replaced by AC...unless you're asthmatic or have other issues with pollen etc.

@LindaAizlewood airplanes have some sort of air circulation, air going "stale" isn't about it being reused, its about it not moving.

@RandomizedToxin @faith_vtch no, you are talking about 2 diff things. central air = 1 AC (HVAC) unit for an entire house - a box that sits outside the house. air comes out of vents. 1 can also have ceiling fans in a room. c central air is standard here in the American S but not as common in the N.

@AlwaysGloves78 I suppose it depends on climate? I live in an area where people would genuinely die without access to ac, so idk man

@AlwaysGloves78 It absolutely does, its the reason why "fresh air" is a term/phrase, id assume this is common knowledge

@RandomizedToxin I am American lol, we have ceiling fans in some rooms sometimes. But that only circulates the room not throughout the house

@faith_vtch Oohh wait thats really interesting actually that might be different from how fans are in America, we usually have one on the ceiling in each major room, and they circulate colder air, but they can be switched to spin the other way in winter, which pushes hot air down

@RandomizedToxin We have a central air, there is a fan that pushes heat and air in all the rooms. We can turn the heat and air off and just turn on the fan so tbe air circulates through the home without any temperature change. I dont know if that explanation makes sense 😭

@faith_vtch Ohhh interesting! It could be a difference in the architecture of the house itself, I know American homes are built pretty differently from most of western Europe? I'm not actually sure what furnace fans mean in this context tho "^^

@RandomizedToxin I have my furnace fans on 24/7 even if AC and heat is off. I vacuum the intake vents weekly and I feel the air circulation is not enough at all.
