🌠 NEW BLOG Cyber governance gets brushed under the rug for a lot of MSPs and SMBs because it’s not seen as a priority, or it feels too complicated. We’re here to un-complicate it for you and tell you why it needs your attention. One of our more popular videos on YouTube covers the top essential strategies for cyber governance, and we’ve now put together a blog breaking down some of the misconceptions around this in more detail, with practical strategies to make your life easier. Every single organisation has some level of cyber risk, and there’s no shame in that. What’s important is that it’s understood and documented, and that the people making budget decisions are actually aware of it. Honestly, the starting point is far simpler than people expect. A clear risk register, even just a structured spreadsheet, can go a long way in making sure vulnerabilities, impact and remediation plans are visible and discussed at the right level. ⏰ Patch Friday… oops, we mean Patch Tuesday (We know we're a little late) Microsoft’s March Patch Tuesday addressed 84 vulnerabilities, including 2 zero-days and 8 critical flaws. Privilege escalation vulnerabilities make up the biggest portion again this month, with a good number of remote code execution issues mixed in as well. Two that are worth flagging are CVE-2026-21262 (SQL Server privilege escalation) and CVE-2026-26127 (.NET denial of service), both of which were publicly disclosed before patches were released. The overall theme this month is the number of privilege escalation bugs across Windows components. These tend to show up once an attacker already has access to a system, so they’re well worth prioritising in the patch queue. This is also where having good visibility into your externally exposed systems makes life a lot easier when Patch Tuesday rolls around - which, of course, is exactly the sort of thing we built RoboShadow to help with. Over the past year, Willow has moved from theoretical breakthrough to proof that the quantum roadmap works. We're predicting that timelines will compress, investments will accelerate, and long-term assumptions will be challenged, especially around encryption and security durability. Quantum computing won’t break encryption any time soon, and there’s nothing to act on as of yet, so consider this a call to awareness instead. 📢 AWS says more than 600 FortiGate firewalls hit in AI-augmented campaign A hacker managed to compromise over 600 FortiGate devices across 55+ countries between January and mid-February 2026 - without exploiting a single vulnerability. According to AWS, the campaign relied on exposed management ports, weak or reused credentials, and single-factor authentication. Amazon assesses this as a financially motivated, lower-skilled operator who used multiple commercial generative AI services throughout the operation to: - Generate attack plans - Build reconnaissance scripts in Go and Python - Parse stolen FortiGate configuration files - Harvest credentials - Move laterally into internal networks A few important takeaways for anyone running perimeter devices or managing client environments: - Exposed management interfaces remain a serious risk - Credential hygiene and MFA enforcement are critical controls - Backup infrastructure continues to be a high-value target in pre-ransomware activity As we move further into 2026, we should expect more campaigns like this from both skilled and unskilled actors. This campaign reinforces something we’ve said for years: strong security fundamentals still do most of the heavy lifting. This is why we talk about continuous visibility rather than periodic checks. Our 2026 Predictions: Part 6 ⬇️ Intune Continues to Disrupt RMM Market ⬇️ We’ve been keeping track of how a lot of everyday device management is increasingly present inside Microsoft licenses. With increased involvement around update rings, device compliance, and baseline security controls, Intune has really stepped up. Combine that with Microsoft Business Premium, and you have access to a pretty decent set of endpoint management and security capabilities, without per-device licensing. Now, we’re not saying that traditional RMM tools are obsolete by any means, but blanket coverage is becoming harder to justify. "What you're going to see a lot more in 2026, is that people may be decreasing their device amounts with their favourite RMM vendor" - Terry Lewis, CEO, RoboShadow 🗝️ The key here is that Intune and RMM tools serve different purposes. The main shift we’ll continue to see is in intentionality; in where and how they are used. Our 2026 Predictions: Part 4 ⬇️ Copilot delivers ⬇️ Microsoft Copilot will be a much better assistant this year, reducing the gap between identifying a problem and actually fixing it, with less manual digging, faster decisions, and fewer burnt-out engineers. 💪 If we're honest, the initial Copilot rollout did feel rushed and overextended. But we believe that Sentinel’s closer integration into 365 will result in a more powerful Copilot that can reduce friction by saving the time of switching tools, interpreting data, and writing responses. Have no fear, as people shouldn't be replaced here, only reinforced. Our 2026 Predictions: Part 3 ⬇️ Sentinel Enters Every MSP Stack ⬇️ Microsoft Sentinel is a powerful tool, but it has felt a bit out of reach for a while. It was either too expensive, too complex, or too ‘enterprise’. We see that changing in 2026, as Sentinel becomes more deeply integrated into the Microsoft 365 ecosystem. It’s starting to look less like a SOC-only platform, and feel more realistic as part of an MSP’s security stack. In Terry's words, Sentinel is "moving out of a slightly clunky" Azure-centric experience, and we're here for it. Tooling is converging, expectations are rising, and MSPs are increasingly dealing with the same tickets, endpoints, teams, and pressure to respond quickly and effectively. From what we're seeing, security platforms are getting easier to manage, while IT support tools are embedding more security functionality by default. 🔩The MSPs that are pulling ahead are taking on more ownership and accountability, without treating security as a completely separate discipline. 🔐 In an out of character mid-month update, Microsoft has issued an out-of-band security update (CVE-2026-21509) affecting Microsoft Office. Microsoft will typically only release updates out of band, when they warrant immediate attention. While this vulnerability requires user interaction, and is not remotely exploitable, it carries a CVSS score of 7.8 and affects one of the most widely used productivity platforms in business environments: Microsoft 365.
