My daughter is one of those wildly creative souls who somehow manage to organize chaos into something beautiful. A few months ago, she came to me with a sketch not a rough one either, like a fully thought-out concept of this bookshelf shaped like a circle surrounding her reading nook. Each section was labeled: one for every month of the year with specific reading goals, plus a few bonus “wildcard” zones for textbooks or spontaneous finds. Honestly? I was floored. She said she got the idea after scrolling through an online app, where she usually finds unique, handmade pieces from all over. She loves that she can buy things that feel personal and intentional not just mass-produced decor. Apparently, she saved this inspiration months ago, and I had no idea she’d been quietly dreaming it into reality ever since. So we got to work. Built it together from scratch, piece by piece. She handled the design and color scheme (naturally), and I took care of the heavy lifting. Seeing it finished felt like walking into a portal straight into her mind thoughtful, layered, a little whimsical but completely grounded in purpose. This isn't just furniture. It's a map of how she sees her year, her growth, her curiosity. And somewhere in there, maybe even a little map of how she sees herself. My wife saw us working together on this and smiled in that way where you know she’s already planning something. She told me I should open up a little online store too she said if I enjoy building things this much, maybe it’s time I stop calling it a "just helping out" phase and admit I’ve got something of my own to offer. I'm not sure I’m ready for that… but I’ve been thinking about it more than I expected. By mjcmathew

I rarely post my dad but allow me say this today. Unlike many parents, my father worries about me a lot. My late night drives, sleepless nights, Kampala stress, business pressure, chilled beers with friends ,he thinks about all that more than I do. Every time we meet, he advises. And yet, in a whole year, we meet only a few times because of my schedule and his work. Even when he comes to Kampala, somehow we still miss each other. Recently, he told me, “Don’t risk yourself too much. Get a good, well-behaved girl to work with you, build with you… and maybe even bless me with a grandchild.” I laughed so hard because the way he said it was funny but deep down I know he’s speaking from a place of love, care, and experience. Sometimes I think of telling him to retire, but honestly he’s still too young and energetic. Some people even think he’s my elder brother when we walk together. But one thing I’ve realized: It’s a blessing to have parents who truly believe in you. This man has seen every version of me: From what they called a drug addict To a musician To a comedian To a Kampala street boy To a marketeer To an employee And now… a CEO. He never gave up on me. May God bless our parents 🙏

Waits on customers and manages money. She makes fancy coffees and smoothies... It’s not glamorous- but she’s saving 70% of what she makes to become a doctor.
