On behalf of the men and women of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, I want to personally thank Sheriff Kevin McMahill and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for their unwavering support and kindness during this time of mourning. As we grieve the loss of our fallen Deputy, Levi Vargas, your partnership, compassion, and professionalism has brought strength and comfort to our Department and to Deputy Vargas’ loved ones. Your solidarity is a powerful reminder that the law enforcement community stands united, especially in times of loss. We are deeply grateful for your generosity and for being by our side as we honor Deputy Vargas’ life, service, and sacrifice.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is heartbroken by the passing of Sergeant Grant Ward, who was called home on February 1, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He passed peacefully, surrounded by his wife, two daughters, and his loving family. Even during the most difficult treatments, Grant’s spirit never wavered. He faced each challenge with faith and determination, reminding us all that laughter can bring light to even the darkest days. Please keep the Ward family in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

USC Price Professor of the Practice in National and Homeland Security, @Erroll Southers, is releasing a memoir this March: Inside the Castle Walls: An American Journey Through Espionage, Counterterrorism and Government. From a pivotal childhood moment to a career in public service shaped by high-stakes national security work, Dr. Southers offers a rare perspective on leading change from within. The memoir features a foreword by Arnold Schwarzenegger and praise from civil rights attorney Connie Rice, who describes it as “a riveting ride” grounded in duty, loyalty, and conviction. Available March 2026. Learn more: uscprice.page/3Nnmxs6

The Los Angeles Dodgers held Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. It was an occasion not only to honor the most recent LASD fallen deputies, but fallen heroes from Baldwin Park Police Department and LAPD. Thank you @Dodgers for this opportunity and for hosting this special event.

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the devastating loss of three of our brave deputies, who tragically lost their lives in the line of duty. These were not just deputies, they were fathers, sons, mentors, and protectors who dedicated their lives to serving our communities with courage and honor. Deputy Joshua Kelley-Eklund, Deputy Victor Lemus, and Deputy William Osborn were members of our Arson and Explosives Detail. Each of them had years of experience, a deep commitment to their calling, and an unwavering sense of duty. To say we are heartbroken is an understatement. We are devastated, we are grieving, and we are holding close the families, friends, and colleagues who now carry the weight of unimaginable loss. But even through our sorrow, we will honor them. We will remember their dedication, their sacrifice, and their legacy. May Deputy Kelley-Eklund, Deputy Lemus, and Deputy Osborn rest in eternal peace. Your watch may have ended, but your impact lives on in every life you touched, every life you saved, and every heart you inspired.
