First emergence of #soybeangallmidge occurred this past week on May 31st at @NebENREEC near Mead, NE. We haven't seen adult emergence at any other sites in the network. Take a look at the checklist on soybeangallmidge.org to see if action is needed and adult emergence updates.

The day in review: red seed weevil season is in full swing, pollination studies are HOT, birds and squirrels are jerks.

True armyworm caterpillars spotted in wheat at the SDSU Northeast Research Farm. So far defoliation is minimal, but wheat should be scouted from now until harvest to monitor populations. extension.sdstate.edu/true-armyworm-…

@joel_dejong Hi Joel so far the populations are around Presho, SD but it’s possible that they are more widespread. The weather this week and next will make scouting a little tougher!

Wondered why the winter wheat wasn’t greening up as quick in areas throughout the field. Little bastards are already at it. #cutworms

Zero known history of gall midge before 2021 in any of these fields. Finding them easily today… unfortunately. Did I mention spider mites??? They exploded also.

@clint_weyhrich @AgronomyBrad Unless you were seeing a lot of defoliating insect pressure, my recommendation for the future would be to save your money. Check the thresholds then spray to save money, reduce the chances of a pest population taking off, and prevent insect resistance to AIs.

@AgronomyBrad I haven't seen any feeding on my beans but I put lambda and imidicloroprid on when I sprayed glufosinate about 30 days ago. Putting another round on now while I put on fungicide.

Small isolated field in Pipestone County, but the aphids sure found it. Lots of predators (and if you look close you can see a few mummies).

@Diversified_Ag This isn’t what I meant when I suggested speed scouting soybean...but it looks like you have some alfalfa caterpillars and green cloverworm caterpillars.

If you are ever wondering what insects are feeding on your soybeans, just look at the front of your 4 wheeler!!

This was a corn field a 1 week ago, Damage worms can do to 56 acres in 7 days! My customer said it was a beautiful field on the 5th of July.

Scouting fields on Friday for #westernbeancutworm, and some had 0% egg masses, but I still saw adult moths resting inside whorls. This one is a gravid female, meaning she is plump full of eggs to lay over the weekend. That means we’ll be scouting again on Monday!

I'm quite confident this is an isolated case, but damn July 6th is too early for this shit. #soybeans
