With the craziness of Days 0 and 1 (and Day -1) behind us, things have settled into a routine for Day 2 (23 June 2025). And one of the happy routines is awarding recognition to that day's outstanding cadet, cadet staff, and flight.

sdwg.cap.gov/news/joint-dak… At 1300 MDT Saturday, most of the Basic Level Cadets, also known as general attendees, arrived at Camp Rapid for in-processing for the Joint Dakota Cadet Encampment. It runs 21-29 June 2025 in Rapid City. The cadets and staff represent eighteen states.

Col Tom Theis, NCR commander presented the award, accepted on behalf of the wing by Col Kevin Pegelow, SD Wing commander. More details on the award are coming soon, including about how members wear the uniform ribbon that comes with the award.

SD Wing has received a prestigious award - the CAP National Commander's Unit Citation. The rare award was announced at the joining SD Wing/North Central Region conference this past weekend. The award recognizes multiple distinctive accomplishments of the wing during 2024.

Airborne Photography is one of CAP's most important missions today, both for searching for missing persons and for flood and storm damage assessment.

An airborne photograph exercise began this weekend's CAP North Central Region and South Dakota wing conference. Photographers checked their camera kit inventories and reviewed camera checklists and settings. Then they took a series of photographs and came back to critique them.

CAP members are on their way home from a highly successful joint North Central Region and South Dakota Wing conference in Spearfish, SD. There was plenty of good information, networking, and recognition of success. Watch for more in future posts, including some really big news.

The 2025 Joint Dakota Encampment is happening June 21-29 at Camp Rapid in Rapid City, SD.

The simulator is for pilot training, but can be used for aerospace education on a non-conflicting basis.

The cadets of Big Sioux Composite Squadron were thrilled to use the G1000 simulator during their meeting last evening. Many CAP aircraft have the G1000 system, which replaces the old-style gauges and greatly enhances our capability for search and rescue and disaster relief.

Cadets in Big Sioux Composite Squadron presented the colors this weekend for a huge Tae Kwon Do tournament that included more than over 200 competitors from over 25 different schools, and six states.

Two cadets from Sioux Falls Comp Squadron received their Amelia Earhart Awards last evening - Cadet Captains Triston den Hoed and Clover Naughton. Only about 5% of CAP cadets nationally advance to this level. The awards were presented by Col Michael Marek, SD Wing commander.
