Yesterday we packed up our duckling friends and brought them back to the farm where we got the eggs five weeks ago. It has been a very exciting week in grade one and my house is unusually quiet today!! @SSEShrce
Growing ducklings need lots of food and fresh water!! Can you hear the excitement when we fill up their water? Our ducklings are headed back to the farm today where they will have lots of space to keep growing and make new friends!! @SSEShrce
Ducklings have an egg tooth on the end of their bill to help them hatch out of the egg. It falls off a few days later because it’s not needed anymore. Some of our ducks still have it and some do not. Can you spot the difference? @SSEShrce
And then there were four! You can see two more are getting close to hatching as well! The ducklings are all snuggled together with the eggs that are hatching 😊@SSEShrce
Day 28. We have our first two ducklings! Our Mother’s Day duck arrived last night and a second hatched overnight! Welcome to the world, our students will be so happy you are here!
And so it begins! The first ducklings have made a pip (tiny hole) in their eggs. It’s their first step as they start to make their way out into the world.
Yesterday was Day 25 and we could see the ducklings moving into the air sac! They are getting ready to hatch! Now they are in “lockdown”, so we stop turning them and turn up the humidity and wait patiently while they do the hard work!
