We've been posting threads which look into the claims @stopbotleywest are making about the science - their 'Uncomfortable Truths'. This pinned thread provides links to them all for ease of access:

@BotleyWestNIMBY This World Bank Review places the UK in position 239 out of a total of 240 countries globally for its solar PV potential (only Ireland is less suitable, position 240!) Global Photovoltaic Power Potential by Country (English) (June 2020)

Also, we note that it's mostly been in sunnier parts. This is true! But we carefully don't note that technology has improved enough to make utility-scale solar viable in the UK - if it wasn't, there wouldn't be so many plans for us and our allies to complain about! 4/11

@BotleyWestNIMBY Why don't you read the article, which also says "But it also drives a hole through the argument made by people in the solar industry who say there is no clear connection between solar and a drop in values." Review all the literature, don't cherry-pick.

I'm spending Sunday writing a piece for the local paper about #OxCamArc. The Arc region has a current population of 3.5 million. Adding another million homes (at the UK average occupancy of 2.4 people per home) would increase the population of the area to almost 6 million people!

@shortthought @greenarteries @peteraf1 @SLeguil Rico, Well a start might be to fund biodiversity along the lines that John Lawton requested in Making Space for Nature in 2010 (i.e. no-strings-attached funding, unlike net gain which is always a quid pro quo for development) and repeated in a letter to Boris Johnson in 2010.

@greenarteries @peteraf1 @SLeguil The farce is not having a strategy, BNG is a starting point, with an improvement timeline. Prof Rogers makes some good points, especially on joined up thinking but it appears from the vid that he hasnt fully thought about the opportunities for biodiversity & how we advance them.
