@SteveRudzinski @ThatMoviePage "Important enough so that anyone within ear shot should listen to EACH AND EVERY DETAIL?"
"That important,"
"And you're talking about the microfilm that holds the recipe for turning cocaine into innocent-looking cookies?"
"Yes,"
"I don't know anything about it." 😠
English

Even cheapish spoof movies used to know how to block a shot well to hit a punchline instead of using boring individual takes.

@trashbaby40k @anthonyraia_ @esjesjesj Yeah, I probably should have worded that olive branch more around how dumb his Ukraine takes are, but woulda coulda shoulda.
English

@SeanPeterFox @anthonyraia_ @esjesjesj i would go much further than that in how i’d characterize hasan. him being a dick is maybe the least troubling part of his political worldview and activism.
English

@trashbaby40k @anthonyraia_ @esjesjesj I think at this point we've pretty much run out of road for this discussion at this point. I think obviously there are some things we're not seeing eye to eye on, but thanks for calming things down regardless.
At the very least we can agree on one point: Hasan can be a dick.
English

@SeanPeterFox @anthonyraia_ @esjesjesj i’ve met many an imbecile that have studied topics in college. even graduate studies. that he studied those topics doesn’t mean he’s not a moron or that he’s immune from immoral and/or dubiously reasoned positions.
he certain talks and seems to think like a crude polemicist
English

@trashbaby40k @anthonyraia_ @esjesjesj This was a particularly common argument in International Relations discourse, especially as neoliberalism entered into dominance in the 1990s.
English

@trashbaby40k @anthonyraia_ @esjesjesj I think there's a core misunderstanding here. The "catastrophe" isn't that the USSR collapsed. It's that he believes the US was motivated to be a greater power for good at home and abroad when it had another superpower to compete against.
English

@trashbaby40k @anthonyraia_ @esjesjesj You have to remember that Hassan studied a double major in Political Science and Communications. His exposure to Poli Sci studies is where that arguments stems from, rather than aggressive left wing polemicist influence.
Not to say that he doesn't engage in the latter himself.
English

@SeanPeterFox @anthonyraia_ @esjesjesj also, by raising it as a “common” position in research domain (skeptical), you’re adding heft and legitimacy to hassan’s arg that isn’t merited imo. so it’s not like you’re just providing context. it’s not like you provided that context but then added commentary on its merits.
English

@trashbaby40k @anthonyraia_ @esjesjesj It's a case that two things are true at the same time
"America enjoys great influence abroad, both in terms of hard and soft power, as well as great comforts at home - yet things have been far from smooth sailing"
That's all that argument proposes.
English

@trashbaby40k @anthonyraia_ @esjesjesj It's an examination of the consequences of the Cold War and, without an opponent to compete against, how the living standards for average Americans have skyrocketed, while their unopposed dominance as a foreign superpower has culminated with foreign policy misadventures.
English

@trashbaby40k @anthonyraia_ @esjesjesj Dude, what are you doing? I'm providing context to the original post and you're interpreting it as a direct argument on my own behalf.
I'm not. Nor am I trying to have this argument with you. So this hostility is just weird.
English

@SeanPeterFox @anthonyraia_ @esjesjesj you’re citing a “common” argument which is not a good one lol why? it’s bad reasoning. no need to defend it.
English

@anthonyraia_ @trashbaby40k @esjesjesj I'm personally not engaging that argument right now. I'm just pointing out a commonly used argument within a given discourse to provide context.
English

@trashbaby40k @esjesjesj You're more than welcome to watch the rest of the video.
You control the buttons you press.
English

@SeanPeterFox @esjesjesj also, what evidence do we have from the context hassan said this that this is the bank shot logic he was using when he said ussr collapsing was disaster? unless you have the exact context, much more likely he just meant exactly what he said as plain meaning
English

@trashbaby40k @esjesjesj "Just lefty rhetorical writing"
Actually it's an argument from an International Relations 101 class. That's all I'm saying, he's citing a very common and basic argument.
And I don't really care what USSR deadenders think about the argument, that's neither here nor there.
English

@SeanPeterFox @esjesjesj oh, so just lefty rhetorical writing lol
somehow i don’t think ussr stans see this outcome as much of a “triumph”…
English

@sopadepanda321 @jfwong Like, maybe you're right and that's the reasoning behind the title change from a marketing perspective. But it seems like it's not that hard to figure out why Project Hail Mary (even if you don't translate to "Dios te salve, Maria") would thematically work.
