@__griffin_ Baffling that you people cannot understand that isn't the problem.
Astonishing that you think everyone suggesting this kind of idea is so irredeemably stupid that they simply haven't thought of this.
English

Baffling that people cannot seem to understand that this just moves the microscopic measurement to a different part of the line
Jonathan Stoop@jonathanstoop
Here's my suggestion for improving the offside rule: Widen the line used to draw offside to marginally increase the buffer for what counts as level with the last defender. This absorbs the toenail decisions with minimal disruption to general play.
English

@Hraarmstrong @andyburnham Andy Burnham has not currently been elected leader of the Labour party.
Procedure isn't really relevant to the point I was making.
English

@SebPHawkins @andyburnham Aside from the fact it’s how our electoral system works. We’re not the USA.
English

@EmisforEurope @afcgass @tiannathewriter Ahh, reply and block. The sure mark of intelligent people confident in their argument.
Take care mate.
English

@EmisforEurope @afcgass @tiannathewriter We have never had completely unrestricted migration, except from Europe. Least of all over the last 5-10 years.
Europe remains very much recognisable.
English

Erm... England is a country lol. Just so you guys know this is a far right talking point, idk how that's trickled into mainstream Black British conversation. England is the name of the country, Britain is the name of the island...
ella@EllaDecember
English is an ethnicity. I’m a British national but I am not English. There are mixed race English people though
English

@Hraarmstrong @andyburnham I'm from London. I have never moaned that it has too much power. I also don't think a kid in Eltham or Harlesden or Hounslow feels they have much of this power.
2 is childish and disingenuous. I'm not against you but you are fucked if you don't realise how bad this looks.
English

@SebPHawkins @andyburnham 1) because you all seem to moan about how London has too much power, which it does.
2) because Labour won the last election and they’re probably going to elect Mr Burnham as leader.
Genius, isn’t it?
English

@Hraarmstrong @andyburnham I want Manchester to thrive. i want all of our towns and cities to thrive. I agree that the UK best fulfills our potential by spreading investment across the country
It is a fever dream to imagine the UK will ever not be dominated by the one global city we are lucky to have tho
English

@SebPHawkins @andyburnham I suspect this is the first step towards doing just that. And I hope so. A lot of other countries have more than one completely dominant city. Manchester is England’s second city now and people overseas wouldn’t know it for anything other than football.
English

@THFCKels @andyburnham I don't personally believe that's true. Peace and love anyway tho.
English

@SebPHawkins @andyburnham Labour don't like people voting, because they may not vote they way they want them to.
English

@andyburnham To be clear, not dissing Manchester. It's a wonderful city and would be a strong contender. But so would Glasgow, so would Newcastle. So would somewhere rural. So would lots of places.
It's a big idea, a big change. Shouldn't the decision be a more open process?
English

@andyburnham I have two questions.
Is Manchester actually the best place for a second No. 10? Isn't it just where you live?
Why do you actually think you can just get some patsy to resign, win a by-election and then strut about acting like you're the PM before the contest has even begun?
English

@MichaelLCrick Genuinely astonishing to see you positively retweet this. Auditing Britain next?
English

@EmisforEurope @afcgass @tiannathewriter Ok, but you get that, very long term, that is going to happen without some appalling and pointless restrictions?
The good news is we won't ever be a single, indistinct blob. But the racial categories we fuss over are as doomed as the nation states we tie them to.
English

@afcgass @tiannathewriter I don't want distinct ethnic identities and cultures to gradually disappear into a single, indistinct blob.
English

@ShippersUnbound Never heard of Alastair, but he's one of the most unspeakably pathetic dolts I've ever listened to.
Always thought you were moderately serious. Surprised you're sharing this garbage.
English

@andyburnham Yeah maybe.
Or maybe just gimmick free, serious government.
English

@raccoonfren @wwxwashere And yet, it's the NYT they're citing.
Because, in Europe, we love underdogs and laugh when our rivals lose.
English

@SebPHawkins @wwxwashere Most Americans have no fucking idea how penalties work and they also don’t care that Germany is out
English

@wwxwashere Except the rest of your replies on this topic make it very clear that, actually, that's bullshit, and your problem is not simply with "how Europe is perceived (by Americans).
Either way you're making a bullshit point. A
English

@SebPHawkins my problem is with how europe is perceived, which is why it depends on whether they win or lose. if you can't read that right, go back to school.
English

@wwxwashere Maybe learn to write better? Clearly your problem is with Americans, not Europe.
English

@SebPHawkins who said mouthpiece of europe? learn to read. i am talking about how europe is PERCEIVED, not what they said themselves
English

@LStoerseth @grok @peterrhague Just shy 1/3 live in London and the South East. Guessing this is what you were remembering.
English

1/3 of the UK population live in the London urban area…
Peter Hague@peterrhague
He’s been talking about the north to the entire nation for one whole week and already southerners are screaming at him to shut up. London considering 90% of the country to be nothing more than its own boring commuter belt is a problem. Maybe it’s not about you, for once?
English

@MaMoMVPY Sounds fair enough to me. Most of Europe is rooting against those insufferable pricks in every match they play.
English

@kevhsy @dejahazina @BoltsyAmsterdam @amcalabrese12 Dunno how I forgot that tbh. You're completely right ofc.
English

@SebPHawkins @dejahazina @BoltsyAmsterdam @amcalabrese12 Euro 96 in England. Germany beat Czechia with a golden goal from Bierhoff in the final. It was strange as all but two of the knockout games went to extra time, but this was the only one that had a goal to win it.
