The Real Story Behind April Fool’s Day Back in 1582, Pope Gregory XIII introduced the Gregorian calendar, shifting the start of the new year from April 1st to January 1st. This change was announced far and wide, but not everyone got the message or accepted it right away. Some people continued celebrating the new year on April 1st, following the old tradition. These people were mocked for being out of sync with the times. They were called “April fools” and became the target of jokes and pranks. Over time, this teasing evolved into the lighthearted day of mischief we now call April Fool’s Day. ✨🙌🏾💫
