About a month ago, I was waiting to board the ferry and it started pouring rain. I forgot my umbrella. There was a mother and her son standing in front of me. The mom turned and observed me getting drenched. She reached out her umbrella for me to stand under. I was very appreciative and obviously said thank you. Then I attempted to muster up some small talk. They were visiting from Brazil and couldn’t speak much English. All I’ve got as a Brazilian conversation starter is bringing up that one of my close friends is from Recife. I also know of a really good bakery in Greenwich Village that has Pão de queijo - which is Brazilian cheesy bread. We didn’t get that far. They pulled out a map and asked if they were going the right way on the ferry (they were.) I can’t name one player on this Brazilian team, but I do know the OGs.
