This is pretty much their ceiling, their players are mid 20s now. This is who they are. Enjoy pick 32, we’ll enjoy #1

Toronto have bottomed out but have no picks for the next two years.
Both going in opposite directions.
Leafs are also choosing to prolong the misery by trying to “retool” for next year.

I was fine with Vladdy sacrificing some power for contact last season because he was still on pace to hit 29 homers, walking way more and being a top 7 hitter in baseball but this season he’s sacrificing too much contact while chasing too much and having a horrible approach.

A) Endure 6-7 months of mostly subpar hockey, win the lottery
B) Enjoy watching a better than average team for 82 games. Then get the privilege of cheering on your team in the ultimate sporting rush, the NHL Playoffs, only to get swept.

Also there are #2-3 guys available in FA and the leafs have plenty of money. Not to mention dangling Knies for a real top D is a possibility. Options..

Free agency is bare and a ton of teams have cap space. I don’t see Toronto as a top destination.
