⭕️ US sanctions are the primary cause of a 148% rise in Cuba’s infant mortality rate since 2018, new report finds
Cuba’s infant mortality rate has risen from 4 per 1,000 live births in 2018 to 9 in 2025, a 148% increase, according to a new report by the Center for Economic and Policy Research. The report concludes that the primary driver is the dramatic tightening of US sanctions since 2017, compounded by Trump’s current fuel blockade, described as “by far the most damaging US unilateral measure imposed to date”.
While every comparable country in the region saw declining or stable rates over the same period, Cuba's increase in its infant mortality rate is the latest indicator of the human consequences of US sanctions.

🇺🇸✈️🇨🇺 A charter flight carrying the delegation from the #UnitedStates arrived in Havana today to join the 19th International Brigade #1stofMay.
The brigade members arrived in Cuba along with donations collected during a campaign organized by the National Network of Solidarity with Cuba, in collaboration with Prensa Latina✈ and the Granma newspaper, which included the Cuban Embassy in the United States and the National Network on Cuba in various U.S. states, including New York, Miami, Atlanta, Detroit, and Philadelphia.
The aid consists mainly of medicines and medical supplies for the Cuban public health system.

🟢 Hamas said ongoing Israeli strikes in Gaza constitute a “criminal escalation” that undermines ceasefire commitments, citing the strike on a civilian car in Al-Maghazi refugee camp that killed three people Thursday, including two Civil Defense workers, and a Wednesday attack in northern Gaza that killed five, including three children.
The resistance movement described the attacks as part of a continuing “war of extermination” and said they reflect Israel’s refusal to implement the terms of the ceasefire agreement.
Hamas blamed the “silence and inaction” of the international community for enabling Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government to continue daily killings in Gaza and the West Bank, and urged the United Nations and other actors to intervene to protect civilians from ongoing attacks and the threat of displacement.

Six Palestinians were killed and dozens injured amid 1,190 documented violations by Israeli forces and settlers across the West Bank over the past week, according to the Palestine Information Center Mu‘ta.
The report recorded 103 arrests, 175 military incursions into towns and cities, and 203 home raids. It also documented the destruction of 26 properties, the demolition of five homes, and 28 incidents involving road closures or city lockdowns.
Movement restrictions at checkpoints were intensified in 217 cases. In addition, 30 attacks by settler groups targeting Palestinian communities and 169 cases of property confiscation were reported.

Between 5,000 and 6,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have undergone amputations as a result of Israel’s war, according to a report by the UK-based humanitarian organization Humanity & Inclusion.
Thousands are facing major barriers to care and rehabilitation. The organization warned of a severe shortage of prosthetic devices and rehabilitation services in the war-torn territory, noting that up to 10 children per day were undergoing one or both leg amputations.
Since January 2025, Humanity & Inclusion’s team in Gaza has assessed 293 amputation cases, with only 118 people receiving prosthetic fitting, repair, or maintenance.
The report added that only nine prosthetists are currently active in the territory, far below what is required to meet the growing demand.
