“Mom, what were you like in the 90s?” Leading. Advocating. Building coalitions that still shape California water policy today. Before hashtags and viral moments, Harriett Wieder was bringing people together around one of California’s most important issues—water. Her leadership helped lay the foundation for what the Southern California Water Coalition is today.

Water is shaping California’s future and leadership will determine how we get there. The 2026 Water Education for Latino Leaders (WELL) Annual Conference is bringing together voices from across the state to tackle the big questions around resilience, infrastructure, and economic impact. From building stronger, more inclusive water systems to addressing SGMA’s ripple effects on communities and economies, these are the conversations that matter right now. As Charley Wilson put it: “I would love to hear what the candidates for governor have to say about water and our future.” That’s exactly the kind of dialogue California needs. 💧 Even a small drip can add up. A faucet dripping just once per second can waste more than 3,000 gallons of water per year. EPA WaterSense’s #FixALeakWeek is a perfect reminder to check your home or business for leaks and make quick fixes that save water and money. 🔎 Take the 10-minute WaterSense Challenge to help detect and chase down leaks. Visit Calleguas.com/wue for the challenge, water-saving rebates, and other helpful resources.

We’re grateful to see organizations like MWD, LADWP, Las Virgenes MWD, Calleguas MWD, along with statewide partners including the California State Water Resources Control Board and the California Department of Water Resources, helping expand the conversation. We also appreciate creators like Science_IRL helping translate the science behind advanced purification for broader audiences. It’s encouraging to see scientists, water professionals, and public agencies all contributing to the conversation around water recycling and long-term water reliability. Thank you to everyone helping share this message and keep the conversation moving forward. #SoCalWater #CAWater #WaterRecycling #AdvancedWaterPurification #WaterEducation #WaterReliability

The conversation around Advanced Water Purification continues to grow. In addition to the science creators who joined the discussion earlier this week, we’ve also seen strong engagement from across the #CAWater community. Water agencies, state leaders, and science communicators throughout California have been sharing and highlighting our new video on how recycled water is purified and safely returned to our water supply.

The conversation around water recycling continues to grow as more voices help explain why it matters for our communities and environment 🧵 Creator Its_Mad_Science recently shared how water recycling not only helps provide reliable water supplies, but can also benefit the health of our oceans. It’s a great reminder that the way we manage water on land can have far-reaching impacts on the ecosystems around us. We’re grateful to see science communicators helping spread the word about the importance of water recycling and the role it plays in a more sustainable future.

The conversation around water recycling continues to grow as creators bring their own perspectives to the science behind our water systems 🧵 HipHopScienceShow recently shared a powerful reminder that water is one of our most precious resources. From the infrastructure that treats and delivers it to the technology that allows it to be recycled, every step plays a role in ensuring reliable water for our communities. Water recycling helps make the most of every drop while supporting long-term sustainability across Southern California. We appreciate creators helping amplify the importance of water education and innovation.
