In the 1.300 years of Muslim-Arab Slave Trade, millions of slaves from the Balkans, Central Africa, Sudan, Ethiopia, and the Caucasus were trafficked through the seas and ports of the Ottoman East. Approximately 16.000–18.000 slaves were imported into the empire each year during the first 70 years of the 19th century, while it is estimated that by the end of the century, 5% of the total population of the Ottoman Empire descended from slaves. Despite harsh criticism of the human trade from European, mainly British, pressures for the abolition of slavery and the reforms of the Tanzimat and later periods (1830–1880), the institution of slavery was deeply intertwined with the Ottoman Empire and persisted until its dissolution in the early 20th century. According to Islamic law, male prisoners of war were executed, while women and children were sold; a principle that was not always strictly observed. According to the Quran, only non-Muslims could become slaves, and the enslavement of "believers" was explicitly prohibited. Within this legal and religious framework, enslavement or death was the "fate" awaiting rebels in the event of defeat in the battles and sieges of the war of independence. An imperial firman dated May 3, 1821, just a few days after the outbreak of the revolution, stipulated that "the commandments of the Holy Sharia require that the infidels be put to the sword, their children and women be enslaved, their possessions distributed among the faithful victors of Islam, and their homes delivered to fire and ashes so that not even the crow of a rooster shall be heard in them again." When, on April 13, 1822, the Vali of Thessaloniki, Ebubekir (Abu Lubut), captured Naousa at the head of 20.000 men, the city turned into hell. There, 13 young women preferred to throw themselves into the waterfall of the Arapitsa bridge rather than be dishonored by the Turks. All the male captives were slaughtered or hanged, and their women and children were enslaved. The most characteristic case was what happened in April 1822 on Chios, an island with a strategic position, thriving trade, and capable workforce that produced the valuable mastic. The revolution broke out on March 11, 1822, with the landing of an expeditionary force of Samians. On March 30, the Ottoman fleet under the command of Kara Ali arrived on the island, and with the cooperation of local military forces under Vahit Pasha, lifted the siege of the Ottomans who had taken refuge in the castle. With excessive zeal in executing the sultan's order "for the exemplification of the rebellious cities and islands," Kara Ali and Vahit ordered the indiscriminate and merciless extermination of the Orthodox population. Irregular Muslims arriving from the coasts of Asia Minor in every kind of vessel participated in this for plunder and revenge. Infants up to 3 years old were killed, along with youths and men from 12 years and older, and women over 40. Pouqueville described the scene in dark colors: "The flames illuminate scenes of debauchery and barbarity unheard of in history. While women are dragged by their hair and violated amid the dead and the dying, drunken dervishes dance around piles of corpses [...] erecting pyramids of heads, atop which they plant their flags, forming heaps of ears destined to adorn the sterns of Ottoman ships." Immediately after the "assaults," the harsh fate of captivity followed. Girls from 3 years old, women up to 40 years old, and boys from 3 to 12 were captured and sold as slaves. Age, skin color, body type, features, as well as social status determined the price. According to the statistics of the Turkish customs, up to May 25, 1822, transportation duties had been paid for 41.000 people. Approximately 8–9.000 Greek captives were transferred to Cairo, which, along with Constantinople, constituted the largest centers for receiving Greek slaves. The descriptions by R. Walsh, the chaplain of the English embassy church in Constantinople, of the public sale of the women and girls from Chios in the slave markets are shocking. "The sales usually took place at the Avret Bazaar, the Women's Market. It was a square building with an open courtyard in the middle. Around it were platforms for exhibiting African female slaves. The white ones and women of greater value were in chambers with latticed windows. There the bargaining was done with some decency. But the Chiotisses (Greek women from Chios Island) were so many that they were sold in the squares and streets." The sales stopped on June 19, 1822, following the intervention of the sultan's sister, to whom Chios belonged.

Turks have little Central Asian DNA. Many Armenians, Greeks, Assyrians, & other Anatolian peoples converted to avoid extortionate tax, legal powerlessness, & devshirme sweeps (kidnapping of sons or daughters). Their descendants make up modern Turks. It was soft-power fear, brilliant empire building.

> Was it France that mentioned a Turkish minority in Western Thrace a month ago and threatened Greece with invasion? > Was it Israel that invaded Cyprus in 1974? > Was it France that carried out the pogroms in Constantinople in 1955? > Was it France that genocided Greeks in Asia Minor in 1922? > Was it Israel that threatened Greece over Imia in 1996, nearly starting a war? > Is it France or Israel that threatens Greece with casus belli and war every day? No, it’s you. Now be silent, you disgusting barbarians. Your fake humanitarianism and fake friendship disgust me. Turkey understands only the language of war. You have no idea what is coming. Keep that fear alive. Keep crying. Because you know you are weak. Qatar asked for your help and you did nothing. You couldn’t. Greece was there and helped them. Iran attacked you bases. You did nothing. USA protected you. No one is discussing with you. You are isolated. The big bully that threatens everyone will fall. You are weak. You are exposed. You only bark like a dog, a weak dog. You are not even 80 million. 20 million in Turkey are only the Kurds. You will pay for everything you did to Greeks, Armenians, Kurds, Assyrians, Persian, Syrians, Christians, Cyprus. For everything. Keep your fear alive. Keep barking. It’s coming.

One of Turkey’s most popular journalists makes a pitch to Greece: “Don’t fall into the traps of either Israel or France. We’re going through the friendliest period in recent years. Summer is ahead of us; let’s not talk about war, but about peace.”

Quieren mataros. Quieren reemplazaros. No quieren que tengáis hijos. Haced lo contrario. Esta es Polonia. Polonia para los polacos. Ave Christus Rex.”
