He begs them but they still refuse. The bank wants proof of her death. The man is illiterate, he doesn't know what to do. Bank officials don't explain in detail what they need to this illiterate man, and refuse to help him. So he literally digs up the corpse of his dead sister - just to make bank officials believe that she was indeed dead. Just so that he can withdraw money that belongs to him. It was only AFTER this video went viral that the Indian state stepped in. Bank officials repeatedly dismissed him and failed to make him understand the procedure and documents required, according to the police. The bank in question was Odisha Grameen Bank, an Indian Regional Rural Bank (RRB), explicitly created to cater to the poor. And this is now they treat the poor and illiterate people of their region (the man belonged to one of the poorest communities in India). Instead of helping them with bank norms, they mock them and their poverty. Unsurprisingly, the bank is now claiming that the man was drunk, and that its officials never demanded that the physical presence of the account holder. Totally believable of course. Everyone knows banks never lie. --------- In response to this, many Indian "middle class" parasite MFers are claiming that this is not the bank's fault, that they can't just hand over money to anybody without proof. Sure, as if bank officials are extremely helpful when you have all the documents 🤡 Harassment by banks and government officials is so common that it's THE trope in Indian popular culture and media. Even when you complete all the formalities for any such scenario, they will still harass you. And let's not even get started on the bribes. This is what a shithole country looks like.
