Haven't done a whole lot with Sprout of Life over the past year, but I'm slowly getting back to working on it.

@SproutOfLife Love the trees, it's going in a pretty cool direction! However they look a little "pal" imo

@starblinky No Steam page yet. Still way to early to consider setting all that up.

Character sprites are now far more modular than before, and new eye/mouth/plant designs and color palettes can easily be added. They all use the same few base animations, so I don't have to create a million sprites for each character.

@SproutOfLife Curious on the tech. Are shadows just rotated sprites? Or are you doing shader magic?

Might be a bit much with the bright blue water, but it's looking better

@Soul_EngineDev The snow particles are all individual instances, which really isn't an efficient way of doing it lol. But they need to be able to interact with certain objects and also be dynamically updated, which AFAIK GameMaker's built-in particle system isn't capable of.

@SproutOfLife I love that weather effect! I would love to know how you achieved that!

Trying out a smoother gradient for lighting instead of the hard 3-color gradient it was before. It kind of goes against pixel art standards, but it just looks so much nicer and will be easier to work with for other light sources.

@SnowLeopardsPaw Are you referring to the seaweed/reflections swaying? It's just a basic heatwave shader that I found a while back, but applied to everything that gets drawn in the underwater and reflection surfaces.
English

@Krug_dev The shadows are all just drawn on a surface that's drawn at a lower depth than everything else (Except tiles and whatnot obviously). The downside is that shadows don't get drawn over any objects, but that'd probably look off too unless the game was made in an actual 3D space.
English

@SproutOfLife This look impressive!! Are the shadows rendered in real time? Guessing how you're handling the depthsorting
English

@SlimeKingGames Yep. A handful of things in the game use it, including the player
English

@SproutOfLife is it done with sprite stacking? looks cool :)
