I am not alone on taking the implied meaning of "pre-load now!" to be "pre load now (so you can play the SECOND the game drops)!" EXCEPT YOU FUCKING CAN'T! Why do any of any of this that way!?

Why am I so pissed at this? Well in the days leading up to today, the big D2 advert push was "pre-load now!" WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU ADVERTISE PRE-LOADING so hard if you weren't absolutely sure the game was PLAYABLE on day 1.

Notice the advertisements on launch day for @Diablo 2 Resurrected. They accurately do not have a CTA claiming you can "Play now." You cannot. You can only give them your money for the game.
