In January 2026, economic activity expanded by 7.5 percent. The Monthly Indicator of Economic Growth (MIEG) data shows that growth is steady, driven mainly by services, while industry and agriculture show changing momentum. Here is what this means for key stakeholders #MIEG #GhanaEconomy #Jan2026 #GSS #EconomicGrowth #DataDriven

Today, I share key insights from the Integrated Business Establishment Survey I (IBES I) Reports on Open Space and Mobile businesses in Ghana, released by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS). For the first time, GSS now has national data on businesses that operate beyond traditional structures, those in open spaces and those that move through our streets and communities. Together, they reveal a more complete picture of enterprises in Ghana's economy. The evidence is clear. Ghana has 2.64 million businesses, including 693,748 operating in open spaces and 82,920 mobile businesses. These enterprises employ hundreds of thousands of people, are driven largely by women and young people, and play a central role in delivering food, goods, and services directly to households. These quote cards highlight some of the key numbers and what they mean. They show that what we often call the "informal sector" is, in reality, a major engine of livelihoods, local commerce, and economic inclusion. I would like to express sincere appreciation to the business operators across the country who provided information, to our dedicated field officers, and to the hardworking staff of the Ghana Statistical Service whose commitment made this work possible. GSS also thanks the Government of Ghana, the World Bank, and our partners across Ministries, Departments, Agencies, and the broader statistical community for their support. With better data, GSS builds better policies and a more inclusive and resilient Ghana. #IBESI #BusinessStatistics #GhanaEconomy #InformalSector #OpenSpaceBusinesses #MobileBusinesses #DataForDevelopment #EvidenceBasedPolicy #GhanaStatistics #GSS

At the 57th Session of the UN Statistical Commission, I was honored to join the conversation on Beyond GDP: Rethinking Progress in a Changing World. 🇬🇭📊🌍 One message was clear: GDP alone cannot tell the full story of progress. It does not show whether people are thriving, whether opportunity is shared, or whether today's growth is putting tomorrow at risk. The future of measurement must go beyond income, beyond averages, beyond today, and beyond borders. For Ghana, this is highly relevant. We must measure not only economic output, but also: - the well-being of our people - inequality and inclusion - the value of our natural environment - unpaid care work and the informal economy - the sustainability of progress for future generations My key takeaway is simple: what we measure shapes what we prioritize. If we want better decisions, fairer development, and stronger accountability, we must build statistical systems that make the invisible visible. For Ghana, the next steps are clear: strengthen multi-dimensional indicators, invest in statistical capacity, deepen data innovation, and embed broader measures of progress into policy and budgeting. This is not about replacing GDP. It is about completing the picture of development. Ghana is ready to be part of this global shift toward statistics that put people, planet, and prosperity at the center of decision-making. #BeyondGDP #UNSC #OfficialStatistics #Ghana #DataForDevelopment #EvidenceBasedPolicy #SustainableDevelopment

Today, I share key highlights from Ghana’s February 2026 Consumer Price Index and Inflation release. Inflation declined to 3.3 percent year-on-year in February 2026, down from 3.8 percent in January and 19.8 percentage points below the rate recorded a year earlier. On a month-on-month basis, prices increased by 0.8 percent. The data show continued easing in food inflation, moderation in goods and services inflation, and a decline in imported inflation. At the same time, regional differences remind us that price dynamics are not uniform across the country. What this means is that price pressures are slowing, stability is strengthening, and the data provide a clearer foundation for planning and decision-making. These figures guide policy, inform business strategy, shape household budgeting, and support research, investment decisions, and national development planning. I would like to express sincere appreciation to market women and men, traders, businesses, and households who provide price data every month. I also thank the media for helping communicate these findings responsibly, and I commend the dedicated staff of the Ghana Statistical Service(GSS), whose professionalism ensures that our statistics remain timely and credible. At GSS, we remain firmly committed to delivering accurate, relevant, and trusted data to serve Ghana and the global statistical community. Thank you for engaging with the data. #GhanaInflation #CPI #GSS #Feb2026CPI

I am thrilled to have participated in the kickoff meeting for Phase 2 of the "Make Inclusive Data the Norm" (#MIDN) initiative, hosted by Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data and APC Colombia as a side event during the 57th Session of the United Nations (UN) Statistical Commission in New York. It was an inspiring session reaffirming our collective commitment to ensuring no one is left behind in data and policy. Proud to have shared Ghana's impactful contributions from Phase 1, especially our critical work in improving #FGM data collection and analysis under #SDG5.3. Through this initiative, we have significantly strengthened the use of citizen-generated data via mobile technologies, enhanced data quality assurance, and deepened collaboration with community civil society organizations and local leaders, leading to more targeted interventions for vulnerable girls and communities. The power of #SouthSouthCooperation has been invaluable. Ghana has learned immensely from the experiences of Colombia and Kenya, and we are excited to expand this community of practice by welcoming Nigeria and Senegal into Phase 2. Ghana is fully committed to implementing Phase 2, focusing on: 1. Strengthening the integration of inclusive data into our national statistical systems; 2. Expanding its use in policy and planning processes across ministries; and 3. Deepening our partnerships with communities and civil society. For us, inclusive data must transcend beyond a project and become the very foundation of how our data systems operate. When data includes everyone, development truly works for everyone! Looking forward to our continued collaboration and to showcasing our progress at the Data Festival in Kenya this June! We thank Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data and APC Colombia for convening this meeting and are excited to work with Nigeria and Senegal on Phase 2. #GhanaData #InclusiveData #LeaveNoOneBehind #SDGs #PartnershipForData #MIDN

Ghana's year-on-year inflation fell to 3.3% in February 2026, down from 3.8% in January 2026 and 23.1% a year earlier — the 14th consecutive month of decline and the lowest rate since the 2021 rebasing. Inflation has slowed significantly, but prices are still rising at a modest pace. This video highlights what is driving these numbers and what they mean for households, businesses, and policymakers. #GhanaInflation #CPI #GSS #Feb2026CPI
