With each of our children's births, I took some time off work. The time off increased with each birth, because my usefulness increased.
But I wasn't mostly useful for caring for the baby. I had limited use in caring for my wife after the first 3 days.
I was useful in caring for the older kids.
The picture below, from 16 years ago today, captures those wonderful times.
Mom and Baby needed naps -- and 1-on-1 time. My job was to take the 3.5-year-old and the 1.5-year-old out of the house.
These days, walking the woods endlessly with my two oldest, when they were so little, are among my most cherished memories.

@Ali18343 @LiveAction Wrong. Unless infection supervenes (chorioamnionitis) there is no need to deliver the child prior to the stage of viability. Continuing pregnancy can be supported and maintained to allow continuing pregnancy, saving both mother and child.

@Dorthi226 And peacekeeper, decorator, interior designer, seamstress, stylist, hairdresser, shoe polisher, professional declutterer, IT expert, librarian… & PA (the school admin 😬) 😀

@EstieMaddie Agree 100%. We’re using brick phone, my son calls his friends, it’s really nice hearing them chat. I’d love to have no 📞 at all but there are no public phones & no live bus time tables or paper timetables for travel to-from school or anywhere.

@savoy_girl @LauraTrottMP @willorrewing @MumsnetTowers @HP4SaferScreens @SmartphoneFreeC @GenerationFocus From what I read schools will still be allowed to take that approach it just has to be enforced now as it will be law & not only guidance.
English

@StoneRose49 @LauraTrottMP @willorrewing @MumsnetTowers @HP4SaferScreens @SmartphoneFreeC @GenerationFocus And I see no problem with a properly enforced “not seen/not heard” approach.
English

@savoy_girl @LauraTrottMP @willorrewing @MumsnetTowers @HP4SaferScreens @SmartphoneFreeC @GenerationFocus I can’t imagine how hard it is, many friends experiencing the same, in fact there is no flexibility on anything relating to schools in my experience, the over reach and constant demands for money is outrageous. But on this subject I support phone bans in school.
English

@StoneRose49 @LauraTrottMP @willorrewing @MumsnetTowers @HP4SaferScreens @SmartphoneFreeC @GenerationFocus Because we all know how flexible behaviour policies are for autistic pupils?
English

@savoy_girl @LauraTrottMP @willorrewing @MumsnetTowers @HP4SaferScreens @SmartphoneFreeC @GenerationFocus There will be exceptions I’m sure for your child and other children with diabetes for example who use apps too. I agree with the ban wholeheartedly but you are correct that there will be exceptions.
English

@LauraTrottMP @willorrewing @MumsnetTowers @HP4SaferScreens @SmartphoneFreeC @GenerationFocus Are you going to tell my autistic daughter she is no longer going to be able to walk home independently (we were building to it - phone is part of the safety). And must also decide in advance how long she’s staying at homework club, rather than letting us know when she’s done?

@WyattCatarina What an example you are to us all!! Brave, calm, kind, full of love. 50 year old mum here learning calmness, courage lessons from a 19 yr old couple!! Go Team Mollie, Dad & Lucy!! Praise to the father too for his courage, support & love!
English

This 19 yo mom, Mollie, was told her baby had a fatal diagnosis and doctors suggested abortion because she wouldn't be "normal." Instead of giving in to the fear and "what ifs," she chose life. She trusted that every baby has value and purpose beyond what any scan could predict. Watching this young girl speak with such wisdom and boldness broke me. What incredible bravery and heart to stand up for her baby when the world said it might be too hard. Every life is precious. Love like this changes everything 🙏❤️🙏

@Miss_Snuffy Brick phones are all the secondary children need in my opinion as there are no payphones any more. Works well for us and our son actually calls his friends and they speak to each other!!
English

@ClaudiaBryan01 Enough! In Surrey, builds are endless/ugly, road closures, back 2 back traffic jams & not a new bus route in sight!!! The conversations with our children is 💔, they see it: no fields-no food, no trees-no oxygen-no birds. Stop stamp duty & ppl will upsize/downsize!

I had a house here for 28 years.
I was the Secretary on our local Resident’s Association.
For years we tried to block the Government and developers from ruining our Countryside.
We lost.
This will be the last memory we have before the land is covered in new housing.
Our Countryside, nature and natural lungs lost to greedy profiteers with no vision.

@Miss_Snuffy Dear Katharine, PLEASE CAN YOU RUN OUR COUNTRY?! There will be a vacancy coming up at No.10 very soon.

People are finally seeing sense. 🙏

In 2016 Norway gave every 5-year-old child an iPad. Within a few years, Norway's reading scores plummeted and dropped below the OECD average. They ranked dead last out of 65 countries. Now Norway is spending millions of dollars to reverse this trend and get people reading.
English

@EveCoy24 @Miss_Snuffy @drivebylawyer5 💯🎯Schools/parents need to be firm. Educational bodies need to shout out about this more. We need to discuss whole body health too: eyesight/posture/anxiety. I’ve heard so many kids say they are relieved when devices get confiscated! I HATE computer homework!
English

@Miss_Snuffy @drivebylawyer5 Schools need to stop setting homework on devices, it’s impossible to limit screen time when kids can argue they’re doing homework
English

@BGatesIsaPyscho I can’t quite believe what I have just watched. Where do you start the conversation? The simple chat back or the brainwashing?
Our children are denied the innocent abandonment of true childhood. I wanted a magnetic pencil case with a hidden drawer not a new identity!
English

@RightToLifeUK @Jacob_Rees_Mogg @GBNEWS But calls the fetus or embryo a child in that last sentence, they always slip up. 💔🙏
English

IMPORTANT: The ex-CEO of the UK’s largest abortion provider BPAS tells @Jacob_Rees_Mogg on @GBNEWS that women have the right to abort their own babies right up to birth:
“ALL THE TIME it’s in the woman’s body, it has to be subject to what she feels is going to be best for her.”
English

@Free_ByTheSea But calls the fetus or embryo a child in that last sentence, they always slip up. 💔🙏
English

😱Listen to this cold hearted nutter - ex CEO of our country’s largest abortion provider - sharing her views regarding in utero babies.
“All the time it’s in the woman’s body, it has to be subject to what she feels is going to be best for her, her family, and indeed the unborn child.”
But what a distressed woman ‘feels’ can be very ignorant and misguided.
This ‘expert’ must know that it most certainly is NOT best for a mother to take an abortion pill at home in an advanced stage of pregnancy. It’s bloody dangerous (I use this swear word deliberately) for the mother even if she ‘feels’ otherwise.
As for what’s best for the unborn child..If the child had a voice I’m pretty damn sure they’d say killing it wasn’t best for it!
English

@FamEdTrust It is only going to get worse. The DFE has in Feb this year removed almost all barriers to academies/schools building nurseries on school land with no need for planning permission, on playing fields, playgrounds, with no parking.
English

@DrCalumMiller Murder some inconvenient babies then make some in test tubes and sell them to highest bidder. That’s where we are at. Give an inch…God help us. Why can’t people see the beauty that life is anymore!!!
