4-day, first-ever 🇧🇩Heritage Textile Exposition in India got off to a rollicking start at the 🇧🇩High Commission premise this evening.
Both Padma Shri @Sunitakohlik2, Padma Shri Laila Taiyebji & Jaya Jaitley ji reflected how #handloom #textile in #Bangladesh has been thriving and is adored by many in #India.
The event was essentially a celebration of shared heritage & legacy of craftsmanship | crafts.

A couple of years ago, I moderated a discussion at Leela in Chennai, organised by the Madras Management Association and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung. After the session, someone came and told me, 'You did a good job... You are from Kerala?' I said yes. 'That heavy Mallu accent is evident. Maybe you can take care of that'. There were two Germans on the panel. I asked this gentleman whether he listened to them speaking. He said yes. 'Did they speak like the English or like the Germans?" He said Germans. 'Would you like to go tell them to 'fix' their accent?' I hope he got the point. I have always been commented on my 'heavy accent'. So what? I am an Indian, who was born, raised and schooled in Kerala, and I speak English, a foreign language which I learned while growing up, like an Indian and a Malayalee. That's absolutely fine.

Why don’t you consider situation where the central govt holds defence, foreign affairs, currency, nuclear maybe a few more and transfer the rest to the states. Let the central list be short and the rest moves to States. Abolish the concurrent list.

That's actually completely false.
The Strait of Hormuz - which at its narrowest is only 21 nautical miles wide - is Iranian and Omani territorial waters.
Under UNCLOS Part III (Arts. 37-44), the applicable regime is "transit passage," not "freedom of navigation." Transit passage gives coastal states regulatory authority over sea lanes.
And the point is moot anyhow since - as Haqqani himself notes - Iran never ratified UNCLOS: you can't invoke it against them while calling it "non-negotiable."

The Strait of Hormuz is an international strait. Under UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (which Iran has not ratified) all ships & aircraft enjoy freedom of navigation & overflight. No state can suspend this right. Rights are not subject to negotiation & renegotiation.

while #Hormuz falls under “territorial” passage, it is in conflict with Oman and Iran’s territorial water, where the latter enforces the innocent passage clause.
