This clearly highlights the inconsistency in Khamenei’s fatwa and rhetoric on Iran’s nuclear and missile programs. Tehran has long claimed a 2,000 km missile cap set by the Supreme Leader, but its attempted strike on Diego Garcia, over 4,000 km away, suggests otherwise. #IranWar

I sat down with Alderperson Rosanna Rodriguez-Sanchez at Chicago City Hall to understand how she views power, from grassroots organizing to governing within the system. Her framework is clear: “the seat belongs to the movement." What emerges is a different model of politics—less about patronage and more about organized communities shaping outcomes in real time. As cities become the frontlines of national political conflict, this is how power is actually being built and exercised. Full interview below 👇

For the record, the president of the United States is now simultaneously claiming that he has won the war, is currently winning the war, needs help to win the war, and needs no help to win the war. All to destroy the nuclear program he claims to have already destroyed last year.

CHICAGO - Kat Abughazaleh gave an emotional speech after conceding to her opponent, Daniel Biss, earlier this evening, in a race that began as a long shot and transformed into pockets of national attention. Community members and supporters noted that there is still a lot of work to do to be effective at the ballot box and avoid splitting the vote.

A counter protester and a passerby clash over the Israel Palestine conflict in NYC. The exchange escalates quickly as both sides argue their positions in a high tension public debate.

After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby. It has been an honor serving under @POTUS and @DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC. May God bless America.

No, you misunderstood. My point is that Palestinian sovereignty means that Americans shouldnt get a say in who governs Palestinians, that should be up to them. If that’s what Trump believes, I’ve never heard him say it. Foreign governments intervening in other nations politics is never a good thing, though I suppose you disagree with that when it comes to the U.S.?

Ryan’s critique of Kat, a progressive Palestinian-American currently opposed by AIPAC, is in line with policies of Trump and Netanyahu. Netanyahu’s government long wanted Hamas in power in Gaza to prevent a unified and credible Palestinian leadership. Ryan advocates the same. Trump and Musk helped attack US’s foreign-capacity building and democracy programs. Ryan advocates the same. Couldn’t be clearer.
Ryan Grim@ryangrim

From @KatAbughazaleh's issues page: "There is no acceptable scenario that leaves Hamas in charge of the Gaza Strip." And: "The State Department must work with the National Democratic Institute, the National Endowment for Democracy, and other foreign capacity-building entities to aid in the reconstruction of Palestine’s civic institutions, in partnership with the United Nations." Palestinian factions in general would view these as intolerable violations of Palestinian sovereignty. Hamas, however, has agreed to give up power in the event of a transition to a democratically elected Palestinian governing force, though not one that works with National Endowment for Democracy (a CIA offshoot).

“AIPAC OUT” is shaping how voters interpret AIPAC funding in Kat Abughazaleh’s race. If it converts into votes, it could redefine what’s politically viable.

In a national TV appearance ahead of Donald Trump’s speech, Marjorie Taylor Greene focused on themes of genocide and alleged unlawful U.S. intervention, echoing a broader shift toward more openly critical foreign policy rhetoric across parts of the political spectrum.

“AIPAC OUT” isn’t about the money. It’s about the meaning. It reframes AIPAC funding as a liability in parts of the electorate already disillusioned with U.S. foreign policy.

@JennyGooz @CivokNilam It’s the perception of AIPAC funding shaped by campaign messaging and broader disillusionment with U.S. foreign policy that is becoming politically salient in certain races.

Can you imagine being so deranged and unintelligent that the only line you can cite to manipulate your base is, “AIPAC and oligarchs are terrified”? These people are delusional.

"The eldest child [whose parents and siblings had just been killed]...recounted that the [IDF] soldier said 'We killed dogs,' took him out of the car, and beat him" In any other country, a government that allows this would be sanctioned, shunned, until its behaviour changes.

Major drama in IL-9’s crowded Democratic primary as campaigns debate whether additional progressive candidates, including Bushra Amiwala, could fragment the vote between frontrunners Daniel Biss and Kat Abughazaleh, potentially reshaping the path to victory. @graystakmedia will be reporting Tuesday night from Kat Abughazaleh’s election watch party.

.@maddow, you are seriously claiming that Qatar bribed Trump to bomb Iran? Awful take! You don’t understand the Gulf and the region’s geopolitical/security dynamics. You are trying to shape facts around a narrative rather than understand the facts.

Strong analysis from @zriboua on Iran’s wartime liquidity pressures and rial volatility. One nuance: the “back channels” that keep Iranian oil moving aren’t a macro-financial backstop. They can sustain revenue flows, but stabilizing a currency and financial system would require large bank exposure, which Beijing has strong incentives to avoid. China benefits from Iran’s dependence on discounted crude and limited market access, so a bailout would weaken that leverage while exposing Chinese banks to sanctions risk. Trade lifelines ≠ financial backstops.

The distinction between rhetorical moderation and institutional continuity is crucial here. State architecture often reveals more about a system’s trajectory than leadership messaging. State actors can modify rhetoric, but governing architecture ultimately determines how the system develops.

Strong piece from @Dr_SaraHarmouch. She shifts the focus from leadership rhetoric to institutional design, clarifying how Syria’s state formation process is actually unfolding. The key question isn’t whether Ahmad al-Sharaa has changed, but what kind of governing architecture he is consolidating through the state. That distinction gives us a clearer lens for evaluating Syria’s trajectory beyond the usual short-term narrative debates.
Dr. Sara Harmouch سارة هرموش@Dr_SaraHarmouch

Ahmad Al-Sharaa may have traded the battlefield for the presidential palace. But the governing system emerging in #Syria looks less like a break from Abu Mohammed al-Jolani’s vision & more like its realization. My latest with @lawfare lawfaremedia.org/article/ahmad-…
