BJP in Assam is a sinking ship - poaching from the opposition just to stay afloat. Where poaching fails, they fall back on patchwork fixes. The sitting MLA from Dholai, Nihar Ranjan Das, has been denied a ticket - prompting his resignation. The ticket has instead gone to Amiya Kanti Das, who had briefly quit the party in October 2024 after being denied a by-poll ticket then. Given his RSS background, Nagpur’s invisible hand in his nomination is also hard to ignore. It’s no surprise, then, that - as reports suggest - discontent is simmering within the BJP’s own ranks. Clearly, Himanta has lost the plot. He should worry less about the polls and start packing for jail.
