@yorkuniversity UIT It is NOT acceptable to have non-functional classroom computers/hookups, etc. AND instructor shouldn’t get a shoulder shrug that “it just doesn’t work with Macs”. B/c it’s not just Macs; PC laptops don’t work as well. Our students deserve better. FIX IT.

I was just asked to be on The National to discuss Roe and abortion...and then I found out it would be a panel with a "pro-life/anti-abortion" voice. I am livid and sent this reply. I couldn't care less if this means I will not be asked back to the CBC. It needed to be said.

While I'm a fan of test-less assessment, sometimes we don't have a choice, in which case we need to at least make them better! 2-stage exams and the public exam (biorxiv.org/content/10.110…) are some alternatives. (Combine them? The 2-stage public exam?!)

@TRyanGregory @GhadaaSharif @KellyCutrara @CBCIsmaila @TLJKelly While the two-stage _is_ typically done in person, the underlying goals is to do better than the default. And that's exactly the kind of conversation we need to be having.

Note to prospective students and high school teachers. Various university profs are thinking seriously about alternative assessments instead of timed, written exams. (Especially during a pandemic!). @uofg administration may not be on board for this, but they don't teach. 🧵

@TRyanGregory @uofg I agree! Science, in particular, really needs to consider more authentic assessments. This means that admin has to support instructors in this endeavour. 500 person classes with a handful of TAs (if that!) is not a model for LEARNING.
