Today we ended our workshop series with @hannamsmyth talking about the Domitianus coin from the Chalgrove Hoard. We reminisced about school visits to museums over scones and tea. We made memory time capsules filled with memories of families, trips, and even a shark encounter.

.@TalkingMemory is happening right now in @AshmoleanMuseum, where @hannamsmyth is unpicking the mystery of the forgotten, rediscovered, but barely remembered Roman emperor Domitianus, who ruled for a matter of days and is known through just two coins. We have one of them!

Another wonderful afternoon of laughter, shared memories, and scones. We explored the skill memories of making pottery, memories of Victorian archaological practices, and memories of contemporary museum displays with @CatOBrien98. And we made new memories making mini pots.

I’m so excited to meet with members of the public tomorrow to talk about the Ashmolean’s Minoan Octopus Jar (and all things memory, skill, and museum practices)! I’ve had so much fun preparing over the past few months and I can’t wait to share what I’ve been working on!
Talking Memory@TalkingMemory

Join us tomorrow when @CatOBrien98 of @school_of_arch discusses a Minoan octopus jar and how we store memories. Afterwards we will have tea and dig into our own stored memories while we make decorative clay jars. ashmolean.org/event/talking-…

We had another fantastic workshop yesterday. We shared memories of family photos, scars, and tattoos while exploring 18th c. mini portraits with Connie Sjodin of @OxfordArtHist. We then made our own portraits of beloved family members, pets, and cultural icons.

Today was great fun and an awesome experience! Thank you @TalkingMemory @AshmoleanUEP @TORCHOxford for the outstanding opportunity and to everyone who came along for sharing memories over scones and macramé 🪢

Today we untangled the mysteries of neural networks and memories with @irenetxeberria. We talked about knots and memorialization in rune stones and memories of grandma’s croquettes. We continued the theme of knots and memory by making macrame keychains.

Today Carol Torres Gutiérrez took us on a pilgrimage from the Holy Sepulcher to the @AshmoleanMuseum cafe, and finally to Hong Kong, the Congo, and places in between through memories of transformational trips. There was a lot of laughter, shared memories, and even wedding photos.

#TalkingMemory2 is underway with lawyer/social anthropologist Carol Torres Gutiérrez. We’re looking at the 17th century model of the church of the Holy Sepulchre and thinking about pilgrimage, Coptic Christianity and the politics of denominational division. And souvenirs.
