@UriBram Wow - all these years I'd only known the Latin version, "Ars longa, vita brevis" ("art is long, life is short"), which I took to mean that I wouldn't be able to read or write all the books I want to...
I hadn't known the original was "tekhnē". The sentiment does feel very Greek

I loved doing this interview with @TechMilly on technology, utopia and dystopia. One thing I'll take away: tekhnē as a skill or craft or art, and therefore "technology" as any applied know-how, not just machines and software

(This is one of the issues I have with the whole AI Safety Institute framing: what will it actually be able to *do* if it does find problems, but the AI companies won't fix them? Give them hard stares?)

Just been thinking about how the UK AI Safety Institute might practically play out.
It is difficult for costly organisations set up in the dying days of Government, and closely associated with the Prime Minister, to survive the transition to a new administration.

It feels a bit odd to claim both "UK can lead the world in this important topic" and, at the same time, "UK has almost no civil society capacity in this important topic".
