There's no degree to which Byzantium was *more* civilizationally Roman than the countries who continued to speak Latin to this very day. You could argue that the east was never really "Roman" to begin with, in a cultural sense!

@Badopinions4 I won’t go that far. Some people use the term Byzantine and have good intentions. To them it means Eastern Roman but they like that term. Some use it with bad intentions, like this fellow.

The Eastern Roman Empire was not a successor state. It was a direct and uninterrupted continuation of the Roman state. Hope that clears it up.
