In 1997 Jacques Villeneuve qualified on pole 1.7 seconds ahead of his teammate, and 2.1 ahead of the next fastest car. 1997 was one of the best F1 seasons of all time. Let's not write off the season after 1 qualifying session shall we?

@YoungyJames That would make sense. A pre programmed flight rather than an incredibly accurate pilot. It's really shown up how much technique is involved, rather than "just sliding", the small movements and adjustments are now visible.

@TimJNicholls Was discussing this the other day. They must be programmed to the parameters of the skid track to be that quick?

One thing I've been really impressed with at the #WinterOlympics2026 has been the drone camera footage It's the first time I've really noticed it used on such scale, and it really works well. Especially good on the luge/skeleton track.
