Let's get one thing straight. Donald Trump just spent twenty minutes lying to the American people, threatening to commit war crimes on civilian infrastructure, and pretending you should be grateful that his reckless, illegal war has cost lives abroad and your money at home. Unhinged.

Trump said the illegal war in Iran would take 4 to 6 weeks. We’re already there, yet he’s asking Congress for $200 billion more—enough for 100 days—and sending ground troops. This is not winding down. This is not a “little detour.” It’s escalation. And Trump has no idea how to end it.

Trump says the war is over. Trump says he is seeking peace. Don’t buy it. Trump also wants $200 Billion more for the war and is sending yet more troops to the Middle East. No more money, no more troops, no more war. We must end this now.

My Statement Supporting the Latest Resolution to Stop Trump's Illegal Iran War

Trump attacked Obama for sending cash to Iran as part of the Iran Deal, which was working to stop an Iranian nuclear bomb until Trump tore it up. Now, to fix a crisis of his own making, Trump is handing Iran $14 billion in sanctions relief. And there is still no articulated plan. We must end this war now.

Trump has no plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, so he is threatening to attack Iran’s civil power plants. This would be an attack on civilians. This is what Putin is doing in Ukraine. This would be a war crime. End this war in Iran.

Trump has launched two illegal attacks against Iran to prevent it from enriching uranium. Shockingly, Trump is now planning to give Saudi Arabia that same technology, even though Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman openly covets nukes. This is insane and will only increase the risk of a nuclear arms race in the Middle East. I am demanding answers.

Tulsi Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence, refuses to admit what we know is true, that Iran posed no imminent threat to our security. Instead, she hides behind a lie and says that Trump “concluded” that Iran posed such a threat. This is Trump's illegal, reckless war of choice.

The foundation is cracking. Trump’s director of the National Counterterrorism Center just resigned saying he “cannot in good conscience” support Trump’s war because Iran “posed no imminent threat.” The people deep inside know how wrong this war is. This illegal, reckless war must end now.

Cuba has gone dark. Trump’s vindictive oil embargo – along with a sanctions regime that has starved Cuba of opportunities to develop its solar and wind – is depriving innocent Cuban citizens of basic necessities and creating a humanitarian crisis. Trump must end the embargo.

Trump chose this war and now he wants help. Why would NATO help protect the Strait of Hormuz after Trump did not consult with NATO before he launched this illegal war in Iran? Trump was recently threatening to attack Greenland, part of NATO. Mr. “I don’t need allies” now wants them.

Americans are in for a crude awakening at the pump. Trump’s illegal war in Iran is costing people $1.8 billion more per week on gas. That money could fund home energy tax credits, electric vehicle rebates, and more. We must end the war and break our addiction to fossil fuels.

Gas prices are soaring at home, but instead of ending his illegal and reckless war abroad, Trump is easing sanctions on Russia to sell more oil. Trump’s war is now benefitting his buddy Putin, who is helping Iran. And more money for Putin will hurt Ukraine. What a disaster.

Americans are paying for this war at the pump. Americans are paying for this war with their lives. Now Trump and Republicans are asking Americans to foot the bill for more of this war with their tax dollars. No. No more funding for this reckless war.

Classic Trump. Faced with a tragic US mistake that cost the lives of 168 children in Iran, Trump, against all evidence, blames Iran. I was proud to join my Democratic colleagues in writing to Trump to demand the truth. Trump must own up to this catastrophe now.

Trump is lying and children are dying in Iran. Trump claimed again that Iran attacked a girls’ school where 175 people died, mostly children, using a Tomahawk missile. Not true. Only the US uses Tomahawks in this war. Trump must own up to this tragedy. We must end this war.
