As a tenant, it is your responsibility to protect your home against damage from frost. During the colder months, you should set the heating to turn on a few times a day (even if you’re not in) to guard against water freezing inside pipes, which can cause them to rupture and leak.

Your landlord must arrange an annual gas safety check to be conducted by a Gas Safe registered engineer. You should receive a current gas safety certificate before you move in and within 28 days of each subsequent check. See our Private Housing Guide for more info
