Then there was another Rajput general who never got his due; the venerable Hanut Singh.
As commander of his unit, Hanut not just won Basantar for India but also put a halt to Pakistan's offensive on our western borders!
But did you know that Battle of Basantar lasted 12 days (Mahabharat was 18 days) and Hanut blasted 48 Paki tanks!
48, damn it!
But Hanut, the best commander we ever had, fell to politics within the defence establishment and could never rise beyond the Corps Commander level!

Sam would not have been Sam but for this Rajput. General Sagat Singh. But for Singh, India would not have birthed Bangladesh and Pakis would not have surrendered in vast numbers. It was Sagat who disregarded Sam's and Aurora's orders, and crossed Meghna in a daring move to ultimately conquer Dacca. That conquest triggered the Pakistani surrender. For this indiscipline , Sagat was denied any gallantry medal for the 71 war.
