@Void_Refraction @nofreeforaII If it counted, my review of the movie would contribute to that 100! I liked it quite a bit! I also thought the ending(s) were poorly structured. I’m not sure why it’s so hard for you to understand that it’s not a matter of “paying attention.”

Project Hail Mary had too many endings. Across the Spider-Verse didn't have any. Maybe Lord and Miller's next movie will have the right amount of endings.

@Void_Refraction @nofreeforaII I was glad that it didn’t end with those threads unresolved, but somewhat frustrated with the filmmaking, which I thought managed viewers’ expectations poorly in building to the ending and could have been improved with different editing decisions.

@D296919768017 @nofreeforaII But then you were pleasantly surprised with a better ending because the story wouldn't have sat right if it ended at those places. Use critical thinking when watching movies?

@Void_Refraction @nofreeforaII “It would have been a bad ending” is just not a coherent response here. Yes! After they got the taumoeba, I thought maybe it was going to end in an unsatisfying way! After Grace saved Rocky, I thought it was going to end in an unsatisfying way! That’s the point!

@nofreeforaII @D296919768017 But that defeats the point of it being a friendship story. If the friends don't help each other live at the end, that's a tragic outcome.

@nofreeforaII @D296919768017 Not everything does. I agree with that. In this particular case though, leaving Rocky and Grace's fate up in the air at the end would be ass. You wouldn't know if Erid was saved. You wouldn't know if Grace lived. It's meant to be a positive, uplifting friendship story.

@nofreeforaII @D296919768017 She wasn't just some random side character. She was the one in charge of saving the planet. She gets no vindication without the scene of her character getting a solution/closure. In the book, it works. In the movie, it might not have worked so well.

@nofreeforaII @D296919768017 Grace tells you he used Rocky's breeding tanks (made clearly of xenonite). Taumoeba broke containment on Hail Mary. This implies Rocky's ship is in danger. Grace must save Rocky. Grace tells you he doesn't have the fuel to get to Earth. How else do you know what happens to Grace?

@nofreeforaII @D296919768017 I can agree with that. That scene isn't in the book. Spoilers: It ends with Grace on Erid, and Rocky telling him their scientists have confirmed Earth's star is healing.

@D296919768017 @nofreeforaII The big climax is resolved. The Earth will be saved. The second climax is much smaller and personal. Flows fine. Provides proper closure.

@Void_Refraction @nofreeforaII It’s not that the story would be better if it ended there. But the filmmaking choices feel like they are building to a climax, and what seems like the resolution ends up building to another climax. It might end at the “better” ending, but getting there doesn’t flow quite right.

@nofreeforaII @D296919768017 Ending when they separate would have been a let down, thinking they'd never see each other again. It basically did end when they reunited. Showing him on Erid was just a nice epilogue. After Stratt says that would have left a big open question on Grace.

@Void_Refraction @D296919768017 idk about ending at taumoeba but I thought it would end after: - they separate - they reunite - after stratt says we have work to do and then it finally actually ends with the class. the way the music is set up, screenwriting norms, editing it absolutely feels this way

@nofreeforaII @D296919768017 I still don't understand this. If you are paying attention, it should be more suspenseful, getting to know Rocky, and hearing Grace's explanation of Taumoeba eating through xenonite. Ending it at just getting the taumoeba and going separate ways would be a bad ending.

@Void_Refraction @D296919768017 yeah so that's why you don't see it. you already know the actual ending. as someone who went in blind, people are absolutely correct about the multiple endings cause if you don't what's coming, it feels like it is end at least 3 times before it actually does.
