I never understood how ‘They took our jobs!’ was this big type of own by shitlibs. Jobs are essential to existing. It’s not like some type of trivial thing you can do without for people who aren’t landed gentry.

These ‘rednecks’ are the first victims of mass immigration, it’s their housing and jobs that migrants primarily compete for. All while academics like yourself sit in an ivory tower and tell them to be quiet.

@NewReaganCaucus Not saying Vance is more of a Reaganite. Not even on economics as a whole, due to Vance’s stance on tariffs (though even Reagan supported tariffs on Japan). But I’m so sick of this Rubio glazing and never-Vance narratives. You don’t know what you’re talking about.

@NewReaganCaucus Also, Compared to Rubio, Vance is actually more closely aligned with Reagan on supply-side economics. He also just got done touring the Midwest to sell tax cuts, supports deregulation far more than Rubio does, and arguably has a better fiscal restraint senate record than Rubio.

I think Rubio is amazing, because he is basically a post-neoliberal that can feasibly undo a lot of the mistakes Reagan and progressives made while selling it as a sane idea to the establishment itself.
W@WisconsinDummy

@NewReaganCaucus Yet you simp for Rubio who has purged foreign aid, shrunk the State Department, cracked down on student visas, deported people to El Salvador prisons, and one of the people who coined the term “common-good capitalism.” I don’t mind this. But it doesn’t sound Reaganite to me.

@JessicaNutt96 I mean… If you genuinely think the war is going bad, logic dictates that Vance is a better option than Rubio, at least on this specific issue.

It’s just the people that are like “War Bad, Vance Bad, Rubio Good,” which aren’t the whole population, but sizable enough, are just baffling and spurting nonsense.

Vance critics who oppose the Iran War while praising Rubio baffle me. Of course supporting the war and Rubio adds up, and so does opposing the war and Rubio. Supporting Vance and opposing the war on principle but supporting actions since the war started also adds up.
Nahal Toosi@nahaltoosi

NEW COLUMN: Did everyone forget that Marco Rubio is the White House national security adviser? That means that more than any American official except President Trump, he's responsible for how the Iran war is going. So why is his political star on the rise? politico.com/news/magazine/…

Apparently it’s going to be about the Tom Bombadil chapters left out of the Peter Jackson films: My prediction is Sam’s daughter stumbles upon some section of the Red Book that describes the experience and they go back in time. Bookmark this. Admittedly, this concept is interesting to me, and Stephen Colbert’s passion for LOTR and his personal Catholic faith (although it doesn’t seem to penetrate his public beliefs at all) seems to be the only things he doesn’t have brain worms about so maybe he could tell a faithful adaptation. My outlook though is grim because nothing that comes out of Hollywood for the most part has the ability to properly capture Light and Truth unless it’s by accident.
Variety@Variety

NEW 'LORD OF THE RINGS' MOVIE Stephen Colbert is co-writing "The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past" (working title), which will go into production after "The Hunt for Gollum." The synopsis: "Fourteen years after the passing of Frodo - Sam, Merry, and Pippin set out to retrace the first steps of their adventure. Meanwhile, Sam’s daughter, Elanor, has discovered a long-buried secret and is determined to uncover why the War of the Ring was very nearly lost before it even began." Colbert is co-writing the script with his son, Peter McGee, and franchise veteran Philippa Boyens. variety.com/2026/film/news…

Some thoughts. 1. Stephen Colbert genuinely is an expert on Tolkien’s works, so it’s not the dumbest choice in the world 2. He’s absolutely going to insert in modern politics into the movie and it’s going to ruin it.
