@YankeesFiles Does anyone really expect Raleigh to get near his 2025 HR total? I think 35 HR is a much more realistic total. That’s much more in line with his other 3 full seasons

@t00ge2 yeah it’s silly. both sides clearly believe they benefit from public pressure on the other side though. and it does seem like the players definitely lose tha battle

@YankeesFiles even granting that it's better for the players to say false things instead of true things (true things which counter what seems to be the best argument for a view they oppose), how is the mythical "average fan" relevant to their concerns? the contract isn't settled via fan vote!

The problem that the players have is that somehow the owners have gotten the public to think “why would you feel sorry for these millionaire athletes???”

I think the bigger point here is that players saying this kind of stuff (even when they're right) is not going to work out for them. The average fan is not going to be convinced to join their plight — they might actually be turned off by statements like this.

I think that’s pretty clearly not true. Ask around about what a “lockout” is. How many people will tell you it’s the owners refusing to let the players play under the prior CBA during the negotiation? I bet it’s not many! Owners wouldn’t lock out the players if they didn’t think it served them

@YankeesFiles The specifics are more visible, but I still see all the "billionaire owner" sentiment all over my feed. In an ideal negotiation, BOTH sides make concessions. I feel there are nearly as many people who feel the union shouldn't make ANY, as there are those who feel as you stated.

@ProGenitor09 I think there is ample evidence that the average fan thinks the onus is on the players to make concessions so that games are played, which is of course very silly. Player compensation is also much more visible than owner compensation, which hurts players in the public eye

@YankeesFiles what's better for the sport. If Rooker has empirical data to support his comments, then the union should use that to their advantage. I doubt he does though, because it's not the cap that's the real issue; it's the fact you can't get a floor without a cap.

@YankeesFiles The people you're targeting with this statement would tell you that if Team Henderson ended up winning more games than Team Rengifo that it was "despite the manager" not because of him. Then they would also rip Gunnar a new one if he flopped in the playoffs.

Your reminder that if you think a good manager is worth 5 wins over an average manager, then you think a team with Gunnar Henderson and an average manager would be exactly as good as a team with Luis Rengifo and a good manager (all else equal). Food for thought!!
