#1 trending on Japanese X - 5.5m views in 5 hours on this post alone and top posts have over 20m views total in just a few hours.
The trend is called ポーズ (meaning "pose") where the Japanese are asking Grok to put girls in a specific pose and it ACTUALLY generates images of that.

The browser is a middleman.
For 30 years, we’ve begged the DOM to tell us how big a text box is. We paid the "reflow tax" in stuttering frames and janky scrolls.
@_chenglou just eliminated the middleman.
Pretext is pure arithmetic. No DOM. No lag. Just raw geometry awareness. This isn't a "library." It’s a declaration of independence for UI.

Pretext is currently going viral on X, and for good reason: it solves a problem that has haunted frontend developers for decades - and that most had accepted as unsolvable.
The problem everyone knows
Every time your web app needs to know "how tall is this text?" or "where does this line break?", the browser has to pause and perform a layout reflow. It's one of the most expensive operations in the browser. It's why complex UIs feel sluggish, why virtualized lists need hacky height estimates, and why text flowing around images in pure JS was essentially impossible. Every frontend dev knows this pain. There was no way around it - until now.
Why this is a big deal
Cheng Lou (@_chenglou) - the creator of react-motion (21k+ stars), and a veteran of React, Messenger, ReasonML, and Midjourney - just released Pretext: a pure JavaScript/TypeScript library that measures and lays out multiline text *without ever touching the DOM*.
Pretext measures your text once using the Canvas API, caches the segment widths, and from that point on everything is pure arithmetic. No DOM reads. No reflow. Just math.
The benchmarks are staggering: prepare() processes 500 paragraphs in ~19ms. After that, layout() resolves all 500 in ~0.09ms.
Why it's going viral
This isn't just another utility library. It's the kind of project that makes experienced developers stop scrolling because it unlocks things the web has *genuinely never been able to do properly*:
→ True virtualization - you know exact text height *before* rendering, no guesstimates
→ Text flowing around images, purely in JS - like magazine layouts, but in the browser
→ Multiline "shrink-wrap" - finding the tightest container width that still fits the text. CSS literally has no property for this. Pretext's walkLineRanges() does it via binary search, with zero DOM measurement
→ Masonry layouts, accordions, editorial engines - all without layout reflow in the hot path
→ Rendering to Canvas, SVG, WebGL, and eventually server-side
On top of that, language support is comprehensive: CJK, Arabic, emoji, mixed bidirectional text in the same paragraph, grapheme clusters - including per-browser quirks. This isn't a toy for Latin-only text.
The repo hit 3.6k+ GitHub stars almost instantly, and the demos on the project page speak for themselves - from tight message bubbles to full editorial engines with animated multi-column text flow, all running without a single DOM measurement.
It resonates because every frontend developer has hit this wall. Layout reflow is one of those "facts of life" that the entire ecosystem has been building workarounds for - and someone finally went deep enough to side-step it entirely.

my thesis : drop the shoulder is becoming more and more popular due to gymskin being one of the most loved streamers in the world right now, I have never seen someone blow up so fast and be so loved by so many people. drop the shoulder is now being done by EVERYONE and is only getting bigger day by day. the general public go up to gymskin daily and ask him to 'drop the shoulder' or do it with him. wholesome and viral, could be a $scuba level play within the next month or so.
