So lab physicians were kicked out of the lab space in Ghana with threats of bodily harm abt 10-12yrs ago after working there since the inception of lab science in Ghana. It's standard practice around the world for both lab scientists and physicians to work together in the lab.

Some specialists already work in the lab, as done in pathology units, where pathologists works hand in hand with scientists on same samples to deliver results. You don’t need LPs to head the lab unit

@_Biig_L @IvyEnyonam_ Lol, this is false. Listen to the interviews by the leadership of MELPWU, GAMLS. They all have said that they welcome collaborations with LPs but they wont allow for them to be appointed as lab heads, based on a false claim that the LPs know better than the MLS,MLS.Ds.

@QuekuChucklez @IvyEnyonam_ No, the idea of replacing the HOD of the lab was to allow lab physicians back into the lab hence why it's now a pharmacist and not a doctor since the interim appointment of a pediatrician as head while all the issues were being resolved was so abhorrent to the lab scientists.

@IvyEnyonam_ There was an HOD, a lab scientist. The leadership of Korle Bu, basically MDs decided to withdraw this HOD with the intent of replacing him with another MD, specifically an LP, in their quest to take over the labs.
This is the aggression the scientists are complaining about.

The purpose of the strike was to allow lab physicians back into the labs to work with lab scientists nd not take over because dialogue over the past 10yrs have gotten us nowhere. The lab scientists have refused to allow physicians back into the lab to work with them @IvyEnyonam_

Anyway, I don't want stress plus I want my peace of mind so they will do their own marrow biopsies and report it. After all they claim it is all in their scope and physicians have no place in the lab

The issues on the ground are about collaboration and not leadership, otherwise why have lab physicians been refused access to laboratory benches to just work and learn???

Chale bro, the fundamental issue you're missing is that this was never really about collaboration ,it has always been about leadership. Physicians are determined to assert their authority over every department in the hospital, and in doing so, they risk collapsing the entire healthcare system. The healthcare system doesn't NEED that.
