“When you haven’t heard someone talk for four years, the thought that they might be able to talk again was mind blowing."

Nigerian security personnel, especially some soldiers, are seen as among the worst offenders when it comes to the abuse of innocent civilians, often treating people harshly without justification. This has led to a situation where many civilians feel little sympathy when such personnel are attacked or ambushed by terrorists. In some cases, if a Nigerian soldier sees you in uniform, they may treat you like a hardened criminal rather than a fellow citizen. All Nigerian security agencies need to be restructured, and there should be proper psychological evaluations before recruitment. There is a growing concern that mentally unstable individuals may be entering the security services in Nigeria.
