My favorite visual metaphor of all time. So cleverly in your face at the start and yet so subtle you need the rest of the film to understand it. Opened my eyes to the power of subtle visual storytelling. Problem is it flies over everyone’s heads and they call it “pretentious”.





It's also telling that in the special features, the actresses all talk about how much they loved shooting the action scenes. If they felt objectified, it didn't come through at all. And then Carla Gugino gives the game away by talking about how a woman always has her femininity as a tool she can fall back on. So in the end, Snyder didn't make the movie he thought he was making. He accidentally made a much better one.
