People expect films to feel like books or comics with their style/detail of explanation. Film is a completely different art, a different language. Just because something isn't stated, doesn't mean it isn't said. It doesn't lack depth just because you don't know how to see it.

“If only Zack Snyder's storytelling skills were as strong as his visual directing 🥀” Visuals are a major part of storytelling. You can say so much with just visuals alone. The problem is you have to actually engage with the movie.

This man had the ability to rewrite history and save every person EVER and with no consequences btw. But he used that ability to save Lois and ONLY Lois. How come he and Donner don’t get the same treatment as Cavill’s Superman and Snyder?

Batman v Superman clearly has a deconstructive nature: It denies power fantasy. Superman is swallowed by multiple perspectives over him. Batman thinks his mission doesn't make sense anymore. It's very clearly interrogating if these characters can survive the contemporary world.

Next time someone says something like “it’s a deconstruction of the genre” or “it’s a critique on the medium” Just ask them what is being deconstructed or critiqued and how is it doing that. What is being asked? You’ll see quickly how empty those words are to them

@ItsDhanushka I like the attention to details of how BvS tries to paint itself as a metaphorical representation of life , it's visual language and dialogue were very top notch, but it most definitely wasn't perfect with how it builds up all of its themes to the climax imo

Happy 10 year anniversary to BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE. This one scene changed the way I viewed cinema forever. Like a painting, the meaning isn’t immediately obvious. But the more you engage with it, the more you start to understand and appreciate it.

My favorite visual metaphor of all time. So cleverly in your face at the start and yet so subtle you need the rest of the film to understand it. Opened my eyes to the power of subtle visual storytelling. Problem is it flies over everyone’s heads and they call it “pretentious”.

It's also telling that in the special features, the actresses all talk about how much they loved shooting the action scenes. If they felt objectified, it didn't come through at all. And then Carla Gugino gives the game away by talking about how a woman always has her femininity as a tool she can fall back on. So in the end, Snyder didn't make the movie he thought he was making. He accidentally made a much better one.
