@lak I’m not saying they can’t beat cars on ist trips. I’m saying that the future of mobility will most likely not be flying cars but an “inversion of the mobility pyramid”. Even the Gulf States, who are a sucker for flashy innovations, think so strategyand.pwc.com/m1/en/reports/…

Simple example why Airtaxis are very very sustainable: Let's start with facts: - cars do exist - people love cars and the convenience of individual transport - you likely are one of these people A car trip from Berlin Mitte to as an example Science Park Adlershof or Berlin Flughafen is 50 Min. In heave traffic can be 60 or more. The "as the bird flies" distance is about 20 km (by road, since not direct, about 30km). An electric Airtaxi is about the same stuff as an Electrical vehicle. It's motors, batteries, computers. o.k., less steel, more carbon fibre. Other then that, same-ish. An Airtaxi at 200 km/h speed needs about 8 minutes for the ride to the airport (6 minutes for distance and one extra minute take of and landing each). So, in the same time that one car does perform one trip, the airtaxi in this example does 8 trips. That implies, you need 8times less stuff to do the same job!! 8 times less digging earth, looking for lithium, making motors, batteries, etc. usw. On top the airtaxi supports the tranisition from individual ownership to shared mobility. Not only it does the same job 8 times faster, it works all day long. Most cars don't work all day long. They park most of the day. So, here again, the factor is about 8-10 times more busy. If you multiply that, you are 64x more efficient!! One airtaxi is as productive as 64 of todays cars!! (and a small bonus on top, since less energy is required for 20 km without stop and go, vs. 30km winding road with frequent breaking and acceleration in traffic. I don't know the bonus, guess ballpark about 20% less energy needed as a bonus on top!) An Airtaxi is very sustainable. It improves the quality of live, and improves the standard of living and adds to prosperity AND is much cleaner. If I would run a city, a state or a government, I'd like to have this new industry with me. I'd like to have the service and I'd like to have the industry. Do you Agree? Please debate, please share. @lak And that is despite the fact that car sharing etc is cheaper then owning a car for most people.

@lak That’s my point. Most car trips are <10km. Your example is an outlier and I doubt it will have any meaningful impact as many of the assumed higher occupancy rates and increased usage have also been predicted by the likes of Uber/ShareNow. Yet we still have more cars then ever.
