@_a__w_ I don't know how many times someone writing down my name misspells Alan and then asks 'Gates, is that g-a-t-e-s?' Now days when people ask, I just spell them both.

Recounting the story of how it became that @alanfgates first name is misspelled. 🙃

@rjurney What I really love is the way which episode it picks to play next is, as far as I can tell, random. Not always from the same feed. Might be one you've heard before or one you've downloaded but not listened to.

Apple’s Podcast app is the worst user experience I’ve ever had with an audio player. No matter what I do it replays old episodes each and every time I finish a newer one. It is remarkably awful. I can’t find any way to avoid this happening or to mark an old episode as played.

@spyced Clearly it stands for Esc Meta Alt Control Shift. As a colleague once observed, it would be ok if your computer had foot petals like a piano.

@mikeolson One of my favorites was when Spotify served me ads for a Smart Car and a large model pick-up back-to-back and then a few minutes later threw in an ad in Spanish. Not clear what demographic all three of those are aimed at.

@HoushangLivian In most movie sequels the action and threat is ramped way up compared to the original. Perhaps we're in the sequel.

@rjurney I read both Theogony and Works and Days and remember enjoying them, but it was 25+ years ago so I don’t remember much.

@alanfgates Yeah, I don’t hate it. The pre Olympians are an interest of mine, just learned about Hekate, for example, so Theogony is interesting.

@rjurney I agree The Iliad is a hard read. I like the Odyssey though. Largely for the topic. Travel is more interesting than endless combat.

@alanfgates Sorry, I meant in English. Iliad in particular is like watching Barney. I’m sure he’s impenetrable to yours truly. Though you’ve just inspired me to buy a Loeb copy to find out.

@mikeolson Assuming best intentions, my guess is a strong belief in supply side economics while rejecting Keynesian economics. Based on my limited reading in economics, most economists feel there is a time and place for both supply side and Keynes.

It feels really odd to see "Birth/adoption" and "New Gym Membership" in the same drop-down for Workday life-events.

@rbowen Someone told me once that one of the marks of a good public speaker is the ability convert that fear into energy that empowers you in the speech. So perhaps those who are always nervous are better speakers.

I have been doing public speaking for almost 25 years. I have given presentations on five continents. I still get tied in knots every single time I'm about to go on stage.
