@Zacchariahshums @ExaminerLK The vast vast majority of child victims will remain silent and in hiding because powerful perpetrators such as these priests would have subjugated them into fear.

Horrifying expose by the @ExaminerLK on the Sri Lankan Catholic Church’s cover up of sexual abuse of young boys. No wonder Cardinal Ranjith wants to keep children ignorant on sexual health and rights. So his priests can continue to molest young kids and get away with it.

Sri Lankans defending this are absolutely stupid. Think about it…the gov will prioritize a toilet for a foreigner before making a handicap one. Hospitality matters, sure. But it shouldn’t come at the expense of essential needs for locals. d me

Official a @lonelyplanet Correspondent! Nine years ago, when we first started, this was the dream. To be recognized internationally and to have the opportunity to be a voice for my nation to the world. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has been a part of our journey and helped us build our platforms over the years. This is not only a significant personal milestone, but also a meaningful moment for travel content creators in Sri Lanka as we break a glass ceiling and help pave the way for many more to come.

@dinidu Both the RTI Com. & CA has held that they are employees of a public authority. Media are also generally required to disclose their news editors. - so this is not otherwise secretive information that’s being required to disclose.

With all deference to the Court of Appeal and its authority in upholding the RTI Commission's ruling that ABC is a 'public authority', I firmly believe, and in good faith, that this ruling may seriously negatively affect the impetus of anonymous sources to act as whistleblowers.
NewsWire 🇱🇰@NewsWireLK

The Court of Appeal upheld an RTI Commission ruling, stating that a prominent local private television channel is deemed a ‘public authority’ under the RTI Act, and is required to disclose information. The disclosure of information was sought by a woman over a 2023 news report alleging her son’s murder confession. D: newswire.lk/d9ld

@dinidu Then in that instance the declaration should be that the News Editor did not independently verify it. Simple as that.

@aritha There are plenty of instances in which its a single-sourced news story does not have the possibility of verification and where nobody other than the journalist would know the source - not even the editor.

@sanjiva Criticisms against militarisation is about militarisation of civilian areas where Tamil citizens tend to mostly live, including continued occupation of private land and HR abuses. It is about subjugation of citizens and not about a military able to defend us from external forces.

What happened near Sri Lanka is a good lesson for all those idiots who keep trying to destroy our military. Now you understand what the "militarization is bad" narrative of the west has been for - to make us do stupid things and make us vulnerable. As Trump and his cronies said- if you can't defend what you have then its fair game to take it. We have to prepare for the modern (lawless) world: We have to defend our territory with force as that's all they get. Iran has shown the world that "superpower" is a myth. Smart can fight arrogance & corruption.

@sanjiva Technically in Sri Lanka paedophilia is legally allowed against Muslim girls. The minimum age of marrying a Muslim girl under the law is technically 1 day and you can legally have sex with a Muslim girl child at 12 years. The Penal Code rape offence specifically carves this out.

Parliament passed the Permanent Residency regulations in 2024 to give PR to spouses of Sri Lankan citizens and to ex Sri Lankans. 2 years later, despite it being law, the Immigration Dept is still not implementing it. This is the kind of department we are dealing with.

As a foreign investor based in Colombo, bringing in forex & employing talented Sri Lankans, Guillaume Bleau’s article resonates deeply. The “hidden tax” of visa bureaucracy is exhausting. 10+ days lost chasing papers across silos (Immigration, BOI, ministries), outdated instructions, silent digital screens and the classic “start earlier next year” response. This isn’t isolated—it’s the daily reality for many of us contributing to SL’s economy. We love the potential here : brilliant people, strategic location, growing stability, but when admin hassle outweighs business value, capital flees elsewhere. Govt is moving: Digital Nomad Visa launched / longer investor visas for higher investments, BOI’s one-stop push. These are real steps forward. Yet execution lags—residence renewals still demand physical runs, fragmented processes, and enforcement gaps that hit legit players while abusers slip through. Time to accelerate & fully digitize (integrated online portal across agencies) cut unnecessary layers, update guidance, enforce consistently. @ImmigrationSL @BOI_SriLanka @PresidentsOffice @Dr_HariniA @BimalRathnayake @Chathurangaab

@YRanaraja @NamalAbhaya @n2addict Your response was far more political than @NamalAbhaya’s. You literally advocated for political interference into the Central Bank. We’ve experimented enough with political interference into our Central Bank.

Thank you giving a political response while my argument was different. Anyhow, to have fiscal plan, one should under go IMF or IMF is that forward for growth is absolutely absurd. There are enough and more examples and studies on this., and as I mentioned there is enough local mechanisms for that.

Since Sri Lanka passed the ‘Central Bank Act’ the central bank of Sri Lanka is more of a regional branch of the IMF.

Came out as gay to my brothers. My elder one said he knew 99.9% already and was just waiting for me to say it. They accepted me wholeheartedly and told “No matter what happens, they’re always my brothers and will love me, support me unconditionally”. My heart is relieved ❤️

@YRanaraja @NamalAbhaya The CBSL governor doesn’t fall from the sky. He is nominated by the President and approved by the Constitutional Council. The CBSL is independent of Government interference but remains accountable to Parliament. There is enough oversight by the people’s representatives.

@NamalAbhaya @aritha The needs, directions and capacity of finance should be determined by the people’s representatives via the parliamentary process, not by the IMF board. Finance is not rocket science and there are enough and more experts to draft a local model for that.

If “finance is not rocket science” then our 2022 bankruptcy and our 17th IMF programme is enough evidence how our politicians are not even capable of doing “not rocket science”.

@dinidu Sometimes in the same newspaper you’ll see the same story repeated twice and contradicting each other. Sri Lankan Newspaper editors are clearly sleeping on their job.

When one person tells you it's raining outside, and the other person tells you it's not raining outside, the role of a media outlet is to not quote the two but to look out the fucking window. They've been arrested, and very reasonably so (I watched the video) for obstruction.
