Big bonus for city as Bengaluru, under the Draft Income Tax Rules 2026, is included in the list of cities where 50% HRA exemption benefit can be claimed. Once notified, this provision will enable Bengalureans to avail House Rent Allowance (HRA) benefits on par with Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai, allowing exemption up to 50%. This is an issue that I have been persistently raising across multiple forums, including in Parliament, since 2022. Further, employees in the list of notified metro cities who are blind, deaf and mute, or orthopaedically challenged are eligible for a higher transport allowance of up to ₹15,000, reinforcing the Government’s commitment towards accessibility and inclusivity. Other cities which have been notified include Hyderabad, Pune and Ahmedabad. Thank you PM Shri @NarendraModi Ji & FM Smt @NSitharaman Ji.
