@snow_and_apples ...mean-spirited without the maturity to back it up. I also found the singing and overall humor quite baffling, not to mention what was done to Nasty & Jun. At least the plastic models look cool but I'd only want to buy them if I felt better about the whole thing.

@snow_and_apples Thank you for answering! I really believe it was a bad series, but I tried to find positive stuff in it because I don't watch something to hate on it. By no means is the original a masterpiece, but it was a cute little shonen with mostly well executed tropes. This felt 1/2

Japanese fans who watched 26's #サムライトルーパー. What did you think? It's been years since I saw such a bad sequel. It's like it tried to offend fans. Horrible pacing, cringe-inducing singing, cynical, non-sensical plot, tone-deaf and キャラ崩壊 of many characters. 1/2

@JakeTropila The fact that we didn't get at least a short 12 episodes series expanding on ZO (of course, also conceived by Amemiya) will ALWAYS hurt. At least we've got this but...

Okay, this fucking rips. Guys in rubber suits riding motorcycles through explosions and abandoned industrial buildings, non-stop ass kicking, terrific monster designs, beautiful Harryhausen-esque stop-motion animation, this was an absolute delight.

There were a couple of "decent" aspects: they didn't ruin Byakuen and a couple of new characters were tolerable. What was the target audience for this? Older people will probably find it bad and newer shonen fans have a completely different taste and standards. Am I wrong?

@gojugo5 I love Universal Century series, but if they expect a huge result in box office, they should develop a story that, from the ground-up, is as insteresting and epic as the original Gundam. Until you manage to give the audience a new Amuro & Char to cheer on, it won't make it.

実のところこれ結構洒落になってなくて 上映規模で言えば ・ジークアクスの約1.25倍 ・FREEDOMの約2倍 ・一章の約3倍 なので、ジークアクスに負けてるのは勿論30億もいかなさそうなのは結構今後の宇宙世紀の展開に影響与えると思うよ

@panipani1976 I only care about revenue as long as it makes the production go "yeah, we will make more shows like that". Otherwise as a fan it's inconsequential. GquuuX may have been a success, but storywise it was still lacking and that's all I care about.

@gundam_news105 I give every new gundam series a chance. As long as I enjoy it, I don't really care if it's UC or not. I thought GquX was better than WfM but still quite disappointing. If it weren't for the names involved in the production, I think it'd be forgotten already.

GQuuuuuuX and Hathaway’s Flash operate as entirely different marketing and distribution cases. GQuuuuuuX is positioned as the -beginning- of a new timeline, with virtually no barrier to entry. It benefited greatly from Hideaki Anno’s name being attached, alongside Pokémon-like character designs and Evangelion-like mecha designs. It was built to invite a broad audience in from the outset. Hathaway’s Flash, on the other hand, has long been regarded as a more niche work that fully leans into Yoshiyuki Tomino’s sensibilities. It isn’t designed for newcomers. It assumes familiarity with the Universal Century, from First Gundam to Char’s Counterattack. Shukou Murase isn’t a mainstream director, he loves Western-influenced aesthetics and direction. As one of the biggest fans of Hathaway’s Flash, who also REALLY enjoyed GQuuuuuuX. It is what it is. 😌

@akiman7 Overseas we have sadly been fearing it for the past five years. For some reason (MONEY), Japanese production commitees have been infiltrated and incentivized to be more "socially aware" and "politically correct", which in my opinion kills most of the soul good anime has.

@kohei__murakami That's really cool, I hope you enjoy them! That order is indeed correct. I recommend Zeta series over the Zeta movies: Both ZZ & CCA makes more sense this way. Also, Turn A Gundam is technically the end of Universal Century and a great series!

@nekoyamaseven I did not know about that cut scene. It's a very powerful one. I think this is a timeless classic. Hopefully everyone that keeps discovering Godzilla in the future gives the original film a chance.

Yes. Around 2000, I was approached about making a live-action adaptation. However, since MT was no longer solely mine, the project never came to fruition.

@The4thTurtleNyC I know it's a matter of personal preference but I personally wouldn't mind "a new canvas" if the new canvas looked good. David's suit was baggy, unappealing and overall the film featured what I'd call weak cinematography.

The reality is that these are the people who refuse to move on. They are mentally stuck on a movie from 1979. The theme, the need for the suit to look exactly the same, etc. They refuse to allow an artist to paint their own picture; they want them to use old paints on a new canvas and wonder why people didn’t show up.

@Chris_novas Everything that isn't Char's and Sayla's Childhood or the former's days at the academy, I enjoy quite a bit. It also helps that YAS is an absolute master artist. It's such a shame that since Char is the golden goose the ovas were about the one thing I didn't enjoy.
