Unfortunate news regarding the Compaq LTE 5100 CD-ROM drive. Apparently, it's not just CD-Rs it can't read. Regular CDs are not being read by it either. Looks like a dead drive and they are unfortunately hard to find replacements for.

Need some help with a Compaq LTE 5100. It works great, but unfortunately its CD-ROM drive is unable to read CD-R discs. Is this a problem with all LTE 5000 series CD-ROMs or are there any that can read CD-Rs? There are none for sale on eBay.

It will be 50 years this August since Carolina Circle Mall had its grand opening in Greensboro, NC, running until its demise in the early 2000s. I don't know how I'm going to celebrate this important milestone, but I'll figure something out.

It was great on some computers but terrible on others, especially Intel 815 chipsets. That was my experience.
