A year ago today I adopted Artie. He’d been abandoned during a blizzard in Iowa and animal control found him and took him to the Midlands Humane Society. That day I had just started volunteering and the orientation leader had me hold him until he warmed up and calmed down. 1/4

What’s the most fcked up story you have of your family? Mine is when my brothers and sisters duct taped my little brother to a poll in our basement and left him there for hours and we would periodically walk down to feed him dry lucky charms and water

And stop using mental illness as a blanket term. There’s a huge difference in treatment for mood, personality, etc disorders. None of this will help you in a manic state. None of this will help you if you’re hallucinating. Every disorder is different and different for each person

Fuck this. There’s already way too much stigma about meds and these ‘lifestyle changes’ often aren’t achievable until medication starts. Everyone is different but meds shouldn’t be a last resort
