Athletics Kenya President Jackson Tuwei says Sebastian Sawe’s career has been marked by consistent dominance in half marathons since 2023. Speaking at State House, he noted that Sawe’s transition to full marathons in 2025 saw him win both London and Berlin, and that his sub-two-hour marathon is an unprecedented milestone in the sport’s history.

President Ruto: We have also enhanced the reward framework for our athletes. Gold medal winners in athletics now receive 3 million Shillings, silver medalists 2 million Shillings, and bronze medalists 1 million Shillings. For the Commonwealth Games, gold medal winners will from now going forward receive Kenya Shillings 2.5 million, silver medalists 1.5 million, and bronze medalists 1 million Shillings. Daily allowances for sports and athletes have increased from US$60 to US$200, and for officials from US$80 to US$300when representing the country abroad. These measures are designed to support sports development and ensure that our young men and women have every opportunity to nurture and advance their talents
