I have, in talks with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in the strongest possible terms condemned the execution of a Swedish citizen today. Responsibility for this abhorrent execution rests solely with Iran.

Några officerare från den svenska Försvarsmakten anländer idag till Grönland. De ingår i en grupp från flera allierade länder. Tillsammans ska de förbereda kommande moment inom ramen för den danska övningen Operation Arctic Endurance. Det är på förfrågan från Danmark som Sverige skickar personal från Försvarsmakten.

An important meeting with the @SwedishPM Ulf Kristersson. We greatly value our relations with Sweden and all forms of support for our people. And today, one of the key topics of our negotiations was strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities. We consider the JAS 39 Gripen aircraft to be one of the most effective elements of this effort and count on the first deliveries of Gripens already in 2026. We also discussed the situation with air defense and the implementation of the PURL initiative. Special attention was given to Ukraine’s energy sector, with urgent needs arising from Russia’s ongoing attacks on our energy infrastructure. We coordinated positions with the Prime Minister ahead of this week’s meetings in Europe – the European Council session in Brussels and the Coalition of the Willing in London. It is crucial to remain united in our decisions to achieve the results we aim for.

Russia’s horrific attack on the Sumy this Palm Sunday morning killed more than 20 civilians. This is not the act of a country that seeks peace. Increased pressure on Russia and strong military support to Ukraine are necessary for peace talks to succeed. My condolences to all victims of today’s Russian autrocity.

We are very proud of our Director-General for Legal Affairs Elinor Hammarskjöld’s appointment as United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs and Legal Counsel. It is among the highest offices a Swede has held in the UN. This enhances Sweden’s representation in the UN and shows that we have a great deal to offer as regards knowledge of international law.
