This past weekend, the Collierville Police Department Honor Guard had the privilege of presenting the colors at the Behind the Badge Conference. It is always an honor to represent our department and show support for those who serve and support the law enforcement profession. We are proud to take part in events that recognize the dedication, sacrifice, and commitment of the men and women behind the badge.

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week This week, April 12–18, 2026, we recognize the incredible professionals behind the headset who answer the call when our community needs help the most. When someone dials 911, the first person they speak to is a telecommunicator, calmly gathering critical information, providing guidance, and dispatching police, fire, and medical personnel to emergencies. They serve as the vital link between our community and first responders. The Collierville Police Department would like to thank our 18 dedicated dispatchers who work around the clock to serve our community. Their professionalism, compassion, and ability to remain calm under pressure make a difference every single day. Please join us in thanking these often unsung heroes of public safety for the critical work they do to keep our community safe.

A big thank you to Ms. Weldele for hosting a Cop Stop for our officers this morning. Our Charlie and Alpha Shift officers truly appreciated the warm welcome and the delicious food. A Cop Stop is a community program that allows residents to invite officers to stop by for a quick meal or conversation during their shift. It’s a great way for our officers to connect with the community they serve. Thank you for your continued support of CPD. #CommunityPolicing

Congratulations to Delores Cobb on celebrating five years with CPD! Delores serves as our Chaplain Coordinator and plays an important role in supporting our department. A law enforcement chaplain is a member of the clergy with a strong passion for serving others. Their ministry offers strength and support to our officers, their families, and the community during times of crisis, providing assistance whenever it is needed or requested.

Today, CPD had the honor of attending the inaugural “Hometown Heroes Luncheon” at Bailey Station Elementary. We were truly grateful to be invited and to spend time with such an incredible group of students and staff. The food was fantastic, but the highlight of our day was connecting with the kids, sharing smiles, and building positive relationships within our community. Events like this provide meaningful opportunities for us to engage with our youth and reinforce the strong partnerships that make our community so special. Thank you to Bailey Station Elementary for your hospitality and for including us in such a memorable event. We are proud to serve and support such an outstanding school and community!

Congrats to Jim Burch, a dedicated member of our Citizen’s Volunteer Program, on reaching 20 years of service to the Town of Collierville. Our Citizen’s Volunteer Program members play a vital role in supporting the Collierville Police Department. From assisting with traffic control and community events to helping with administrative tasks and special assignments, they allow our officers to stay focused on calls for service while still keeping our community engaged and supported. For two decades, Jim has given his time to serve others and support our department. His commitment, reliability, and willingness to step up whenever needed makes a difference. Thank you, Jim, for your service and for being such an important part of CPD.

Today, the Tennessee Highway Safety Office hosted a press conference right here at the Collierville Historic Town Square to kick off Operation Hands Free for April’s Distracted Driving Awareness Month. We were honored to have THSO Director Buddy Lewis in Collierville to lead the announcement, highlighting the importance of Tennessee’s Hands-Free Law and the ongoing efforts to reduce distracted driving across the state. The event took place in the Collierville Town Square and brought together law enforcement leaders from across the region, including Chief Dale Lane, as well as partners from THP and surrounding agencies. “Distracted driving continues to put lives at risk on our roadways. By partnering with our law enforcement partners across Shelby County and supporting the Tennessee Highway Safety Office’s Hands Free initiative, we are sending a clear message: safe driving requires your full attention. Every text, call, or distraction can wait. Our priority is protecting the people of our community, and we ask every driver to join us in keeping Collierville’s roads safe", said Chief Lane. We also want to thank "Drake the Dragon" from West Collierville Middle School for helping us spread the message. Beginning today, you will see increased enforcement efforts focused on drivers who are holding or using mobile devices while behind the wheel. Tennessee law makes it illegal to hold a phone while driving, and violations can result in points on your license. This campaign is about saving lives. Today, our recruitment team attended the Career and Technical Education Expo at Fayette Ware Comprehensive High School, where we connected with students and shared information about careers in law enforcement. Events like this are a valuable way to engage with young people, answer questions, and provide insight into the many paths available within our profession. By participating in career fairs and educational events, we strengthen relationships with the next generation and help foster trust, mentorship, and opportunity. Law enforcement partnerships with our youth are essential to building safer, stronger communities. We are proud to support programs that encourage students to explore their interests and consider future careers in public service. Tomorrow is April 1… but this is no joke. Tennessee’s Hands-Free Law enforcement efforts ramp up across the state as part of distracted driving awareness month. CPD officers will be stepping up enforcement throughout the month of April. If you’re driving and holding your phone, you can expect to be stopped. More importantly, you’re putting yourself and others at risk. Put the phone down. Eyes on the road. Hands on the wheel. Let’s keep everyone safe out there.

Today, Lauren Coffee, a representative with National Life Group and the Do Good Hero Program, recognized the Collierville Police Department as this month’s Do Good Hero award recipient. As part of the recognition, a check was presented to the Collierville Citizens Police Association, and a family day was hosted at the VFW in Collierville. We appreciate the recognition and the continued support from National Life Group and their commitment to giving back to the community.

Yesterday, Collierville Police Officer Elijah Beach graduated from the Shelby County Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) program at the Sheriff’s Office Training Academy. CIT officers receive specialized training to respond to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis, with a focus on de-escalation, communication, and connecting people with the resources they need. These are often some of the most challenging calls we handle, and this training helps ensure they are approached with care and professionalism. Thank you to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office for hosting the class and continuing to support this important training.

More cyclists will be out as the weather warms up, especially on our main roads and in neighborhoods. Drivers: Slow down and stay alert. Give cyclists space when passing—at least three feet—and only pass when it’s safe to do so. Be mindful at intersections and when turning, and always double check before opening your door. Cyclists: Use bike lanes when available. If not, ride with the flow of traffic and stay to the right. Be visible, stay predictable, and follow all traffic laws, including traffic signals and stop signs. A little patience and awareness from everyone goes a long way in keeping our roads safe.
